If you push the throttle hard enough you'll feel a "bump" and it'll accelerate over the speed limiter you've set. At least it does on my Passat!

What’s a kickdown switch?

Little switch at the bottom of the pedal travel that tells the car to give it everything it has, override any speed limiters and shift down a gear if possible. Press till you feel it hit the end and then press harder - that's the switch.

Never knew that. Seriously. I always thought it kicked down in response to throttle angle and velocity. It’s been a while between cars and first VW so I must’ve missed some tech. Cheers for the tip!
