Joining the Tiguan club - 162TSI Sportline in Tungsten Silver

After 6 years of Golf GTI ownership I've "grown up" but haven't strayed too far away. Signed on the dotted line for a 162TSI Sportline in Tungsten Silver today!

Drove it and was very impressed, plenty of squirt, great handling, excellent space inside especially after a Golf. Now to resist tuning it...the boss will probably notice if I do

We drove the Comfortline 132 first, wasn't grabbing me and almost walked. Then jumped in the 162, after 1km we looked at each other and said "yep, let's do it". Definitely felt like a Tiguan GTI!

Could you tell me what's in a Sportline, there is no detail - it appears to be the same as an Adventure, but adds clever shocks, the 162 motor and the alternative 20" wheels (of course not the bumper and roof racks) - so has it has micro velour seats with massage 10 way function, kick boot release? thx

Sanman - the seats are trimmed the same as the Adventure but no electrics (so no massage function).

I didn't go in looking for all the features so below may not be 100% correct. I went in with the aim of buying an Adventure, drove the 132 Comfortline and was underwhelmed, most obvious for me was a lack of go.

After a few minutes in the Sportline I thought this is more like it! It was mainly about the drive for me, I'm sure I'll be finding out what all the tricky features are over time when I pick it up this week. I've been car shopping for a little while, not much else had come close to the 'giant GTI' feel I was looking for aside from an older Audi Q5 with the full S-Line pack, which prompted checking out new equivalents for the same price (i.e. Tiguan).

Obvious differences when compared to the Adventure from what I saw are:
- 162 motor
- 20 inch wheels
- Adaptive chassis (with progressive steering rack?)
- Same trim seats, no electrics
- Proximity key and all that entails such as push button start, tailgate that does the smart stuff (auto close when you walk away with key, open by waving foot etc).
- rear bumper and exhaust cutouts look like the highline, bits of chrome around lower body too.

Other things that I'm not sure the Adventure has is some of the safety stuff like adaptive cruise, lane assist etc.

Only options on the Sportline spec are metallic paint (tick!) and sunroof.

Adventure has the power tail gate and proximity key/push start. DAP gives you the adaptive cruise etc. Main difference of the Sportline and Adventure is the engine, adaptive chassis and body kit.

The only reason I know is I was in the market for the Sportline but drove it and didn’t want the power. Went for the Adventure (getting it next week fingers crossed) after a lot of research between the two models

Thanks Dan_3MPS. As its additional cost, I am surprised VWA delete some of the Adventure features. I really want the extra engine power, but dont want the harder 20" ride and adaptive shocks combo. And although I don't really care about the 10 way massage function of the Adventure, I'm surprised VWA would defeature the Sportline and still charge more. Greedy.

It's sitting in the garage now, only driven about 100km. Got the windows tinted today which improved the looks even more. Made the privacy glass even darker and just went legal on the front, at least the green tinge you get from manufacturers standard glass is now gone.

Have found that I'm running around with the adaptive dampers on the comfort setting for town, which works well.

Things I've noticed straight away:
- The LED headlights are incredible
- It's so quiet compared to my old Mk6 GTI
- Stop/start doesn't annoy me as much as I thought it would, found I'm leaving it on most of the time
- Lane assist is taking some getting used to!
- I'm going quicker than I think I am, covers ground with very little fuss and drama
- Pretty handy off the lights at the traffic light GP if you're ready for it
- 20 inch wheels in dark grey with Continental Sport Contact 5's are awesome, a lot of wheel and tyre for the $

I haven't tried any of the park assist modes, adaptive cruise etc yet. Still getting used to proximity key and all that as well, I'm used to pressing lock/unlock so it will take me a while.

In comparison to my old car, I feel like I've bought a grown ups car so that's taking me a bit of time to wrap my head around. It's not perfect, and over time I may tweak a few things but as package I'm more impressed every time I drive it. In the few days I've had it I haven't wished for the GTI to be back in my garage, so I guess that's a positive!

Edit: And I forgot to mention that at 6'5" it's the first car I've owned where an adult can sit behind my driving position without me changing it. I can sit behind my driving position and it would be more than tolerable for quite a while.
