Volkswagen's T-Cross enters showrooms in April priced from $27,990 – the brand's most affordable ever SUV and the first German entrant in its segment.

T-Cross represents both the entry point and the completion of Volkswagen's SUV range, which now runs from this urban oriented model through the T-Roc, Tiguan, Tiguan Allspace and Touareg ranges.

T-Cross arrives in two versions – 85TSI Life ($27,990) and 85TSI Style ($30,990) – powered by the Volkswagen Group's feisty 1.0-litre 3 cylinder turbo petrol engine that puts out 85kW and 200Nm through a 7-speed DSG transmission and the front wheels. A third version – the 110TSI Style with a 1.5-litre turbo-charged four cylinder engine – arrives in June with pricing to be confirmed.

The new T-Cross, along with the T-Roc SUV, can be seen by the public at the Volksfest event in Brisbane on February 16.

"The T-Cross takes Volkswagen into new territory," says the brand's Director of Customer Experience and Marketing and Jason Bradshaw.

"Previously Japanese and Korean brands have had this segment to themselves. To say that none can touch the T-Cross for technology is no empty boast. Now, for the first time, there is an affordable German compact SUV, one that as the Tiguan and Touareg do in their respective segments, transcends the gulf between the mass market brands and those perceived as prestige."

looks pretty good in that colour. I'd go with the orange i think, in style spec if i wanted to upgrade.

It's a shame the dash highlight trim is not more customisable.
I don't like the one on the style but prefer the R-Line version, a bit more subtle

Thats what I choose. Energetic Orange, Style fitout, with Sound and Vision pack. Very pleased with it.

Got loaned one of these whilst having my Golf Serviced. Terrible car, underpowered to the point of being dangerous. Cheap plastic interior is huge letdown and dynamics fall way short of market expectations. Have seen virtually none of them on the road and wouldnt be surprised if VW remove it from the Australia line up quickly.

Hi Rufus, You can't be talking about the same car. I've owned fast Audis including a V6TT and an S3, and I was prepared for leisurely performance from a T-Cross, but I am pleasantly surprised at it's pace and handling. As an owner of one I see them regularly on the road. I've owned twenty five cars over a lifetime of driving, and I count this as one of the best. Cheers-John
