New Amarok

I took a new Amarok for a drive today, I was quite surprised by the car or ute....what ever you want to call it.

I took out a trendline for a run up the highway quickly, I am very seriously considering buying one. I found it sat very well on the road and was good at 100km/h. It seemed that I was sitting up very high, but not intrusively so. The car felt VERY big, dad used to have a dual cab T3 transporter, and it felt much bigger than that.

I only had one real issue with the car though, The tub or tray or what ever you want to call it was useless! The marketing ploy seems to be hitting on the whole pallet thing, but seriously who carries around a pallet if you are having the thing for private use. Personally I will be carrying a bike around in the back. This means that I will be driving around with the tail gate down, while that doesnt particularly worry me It is a bit of an inconvenience when your stands or anything else you want to put in the back will slide out on any decent sort of hill.

All that being said, If I had the money I'd buy one tomorrow.

Quick question to end my rant, what is the 2H I see on all the ad's? Is it just a series thing?

I can't work out why there is such a difference in price for the same car. I was just looking at a basic Trendline which starts at about 47k. The equivalent in QLD is 52....Why such a difference???

All the 4wd dual cabs in the market have very similar tray lengths (for the factory, style side tray)

FWIW, I used to carry a motorbike in the back of a D-Max all the time, tailgate down, and never had a problem of anything falling out, mostly because I used common sense and tied/roped/occy-strapped the stuff down

Yeah I still have an issue with it, You shouldn't need to tie everything down, its just stupid. Why have a ute if your going to have to tie it down....Im not looking for an argument here but its just silly. I'm thinking I might wait till the single cab comes out.

On the thing about the bike if you hit a decent bump like some of the **** they have in Rural QLD or out back NSW the rear of the bike will move and that will cause the tail gate to move up and come crashing down which I cant imagine will do any good to it.

I know what everyone is about to say and that I'm not tying it down hard enough, but I do, I make sure the poofter of a thing wont fall over but I still remember the thing doing it when we had the transporter.

Ah, maybe that's your problem. If you're comparing it to the old T3 DC, these had a much longer tray, as they were a cab-forward design. I think you'll find the Amarok tray specs are the equal of any other conventional DC (barring F100's etc), but if you want tray length in a DC ute, maybe you should look at a T5 transporter DC, in 4Motion, if you need the 4WD.

Nah I want an Amarok haha, Just being a little Bi**h I think, I need to harden up. I see there is some sort of C chanel frame for a bike to sit on in the tray which should work.

Anyway I now have to replace the Compressor in the VR for the Aircon and then I will be a proud owner of a Amarok.

i drove a base model one and wasn't all that impressed. Far too underpowered un-loaded (I can't imgaine how gutless it would be loaded!!!), soggy feeling brake pedal and uber notchy gearbox were my main gripes. Also the sheer size of the thing! Quite large, but as mentioned before the tray is tiny and useless. I have bikes and motorbikes and there is no chance that they would fit!

That said I havent tried the top spec, more powerful model

Shame really because its an otherwise nice vehicle!

it was 103kw single turbo version. There will definitely be tunes out there for them soon, so power wise they will at least be a little perkier.

I'd still have one if I was in the market for a 4wd commercial vehicle.

I Agree, a weeks test with it would be great, but for normal ppl I fear it will never happen. I have a mate who works at Austral who has agree'd to take me out for a real drive of one, so hopefully I will get a better feeling than the 10 km's I did last time.

I Agree, a weeks test with it would be great, but for normal ppl I fear it will never happen. I have a mate who works at Austral who has agree'd to take me out for a real drive of one, so hopefully I will get a better feeling than the 10 km's I did last time.

I'd most likely do performance first tune it, not sure about doing anything but a cat back for the exhaust because Im certain they have DPF's. So hopefully a DPF delete tune will come soon.

Im in two minds weather I'd put some now off road kit on it or slam it on some Rotiforms Prob option one, because it would be cool to chuck some stuff in the tray and go bush with my mates, explore some more of Aus.

Whats a DPF???

I was looking at throwing a lift kit on it for the rough stuff until I got in one. Now all I want is a F**k off bull bar with some spotty's and a tow ball. I know its a bit boring. I was wondering how it'd look if you dropped it on its guts....Still be pretty tough!

Its good to have a ute to go off roading in, but trust me, you all of a sudden get lots of mates who need a quick hand! Thats the only thing I hate about a ute.

What's a good colour, Im thinking white, but I really want Red!
