Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Need some help with MSFW retrofit in Amarok

    Hey all, new here!
I replaced my crappy plastic trendline steering on my 2012 Amarok wheel with a MFSW from Jetta 6 with buttons. Now I'm trying to get the radio control buttons to work, but having no luck.

Added 12v+ to pin 9 from pin 15 on the headlight module
Added wire from pin 10 to purple/white cable in kick panel

Buttons aren't lighting up and obviously can't control anything

I have a weird module inside the steering wheel that I haven't seen in other peoples wheels, the button modules connect to it via ribbon cable, but there's an empty plug there, what do I do with this? Could it be the reason nothing is working?
I also have an after market Amarok specific headunit, but surely illumination should work at the very least.

I have used OBDEleven long coding to enable MFSW.

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Your images don’t look to be working.

Would need part numbers and a vcds or obd11 scan to be able to see what going on.

What do you require from OBD11?

I think I figured it out. I bought the wheel without airbag and used my previous one. It doesn't have the black plug that goes into that module in the picture. Is that why it's not working perhaps?

I can get the original airbag for this wheel if it could resolve the issue?

So I bought a new harness. Illumination instantly worked and strangely, the MFD buttons, even though I didn't pull in the additional wires for it (only pin 9 and 10 on the slip ring)

The left buttons still don't operate anything though and I'm 100% convinced it has to do with the aftermarket radio.

              Any pointers?
