Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Spare tyre winch repair.

    Hi Guys,
I am trying to fix the spare tyre winch on my step sons Amarok.
The original problem was a bunched up wire rope and jamming....
I pulled it down and replaced the wire rope......
Now is the tricky part....I did take some snaps as I opened it up, but did sort of explode when I opened it.

I got it all back together except a have a Pawl left over.....lol

I assume THAT rachets the cable drum and stops it unravelling, but can't see how it works.

Does anyone know where this fits in the picture?

My first thought was that it was located by the 5mm pin in the opening, but the hole in the pawl is only 4mm.

There is a 4mm hole midway on the cable drum, but there isn't a pin to locate it? ( Is the pin mssing?)
I would have thought there would be a spring in there some where as well.....?

    Anyone gone through this?

I found where I was going wrong.
I found the pin that locates the pawl in the cable drum and I had taken a pic that showed the tip of the pawl.
It's all back together and working.

      Hi Steve,
I have a similar problem. Did you drill out the 'rivets' from the factory to split the housing?
