Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Golf R - Thermostat/Regulator Pump Assembly Repair

    Hi All,
Just wanted to get advice on a repair quote I've had for my Mk7 Golf R.

The check engine light is coming on & my workshop ran a VCDS diagnostic to confirm that the Colant Thermostat/Regulator Pump Assembly needs replacing.

I can hear it is making some "stuttering" noises too & clearly needs to be done. Unfortunately mine is a couple of months out of warranty... I wanted to see if others have had this job done elsewhere & how much they were charged?

The current quote is $1580 fitted - seemed a little excessive?

Please let me know your thoughts.
    Thanks.

If it's just a couple of months out of warranty I'd be checking if VW would do some kind of good will deal on a repair like that

          Thanks LibraR,
Tried calling one of the VW Service centres & they weren't going to help.... the other wanted to charge me $220 just to re-do the diagnostic & wouldn't give me a quote.

Just wanted to get some idea on how much this normally costs & if I'm being overcharged, or this is the going price.

          Thanks,
          David.

Roll the dice on the diagnostic fee.

If VW will cover the repair under warranty, they'll cover the diagnostic fee as well.

I tried with one garage already & it looks like VW won't come to the party, particularly given its also got a Stage 1 tune on there

Surprised that I'm the only one out there to have this problem... will try another VW dealer & see how we go, but it would be nice to know how much it would cost to do if someone else has had this issue before.

              Thanks.
