    There isn't much in the pricing when you compare apples with apples (assuming you want the nice gear which I did, some of which isn't even available here of course on the R), throw in my views on the sedan looks and interior v R and it was an absolute no-brainer for me. I was very happy to trade a couple percent of handling that I will never use for all the other benefits (for me).

      I am still disappointed that the VW simplification of the options list (which I totally agree with) has gone too far as I would have happily swapped the leather for the 8" head unit and DAB+. However, I might just do that myself next year anyway!

      I will compliment the R at some point soon with an old Lotus or Caterham 7 as that is really the best way to get the best of all worlds!

        I was actual long thinking of the R wagon at the time but yeah rolled with the S3 in the end, but if I was looking at tracking and mods I'd have likely taken the R hatch. At some point I need to own an R, perhaps Mk8.

        I can understand not being fussed with VW Vienna, my rear likes the Audi Nappa.

        This is not the thread and I'm drifting even above, but I'll say it again anyway - you should be able to spec your R with whatever combo is available from factory, so long as you're happy to wait and pay a sufficient holding deposit to negate the risk of the dealer getting stuck with the car if the buyer was to walk. Everyone wins and it would be a small step to repair brand damage.

            So the CS doesn't come with the 8" head unit??

                • And I continue to be shocked by VW OZ's approach on the CS configuration and lack of options choices... In comparison I ordered mine over here with:

                  Bucket seats, Bi-Xenon lights, DCC adaptive dampers, 8" Discover Pro with Car-Net, ACC, Dynaudio Hi-Fi system, parking sensors and rear camera, electric folding mirrors, winter package on the stock 18" forged Belvedere wheels (Really VW OZ why did you have to mess with that as well??? ) which make for a very complete, almost luxurious modern hot hatch especially for gadget freaks like myself.

                  I would have a vey hard time justifying a CS to myself in Australia with so many options removed, and in fact not even being options at all. It is little things that can make a good car just perfect for you and when they are a manufacturer's option in other markets, why should you pay more and bother with aftermarket retro-fits?

                  • Actually it's available on the Highline Tiggy (not just R line) and the Passat Alktrack for eg...I think it's just VWA don't see the need for it on high performance golfs, and feel like they can get away with it due to demand...(these models also come with auto folding mirrors and the Tiggy gets the new Audi Active Info display &#128516

                      This is why it is hard to pass, however we have no pricing here in Oz yet, my guess it will be $55k starting price for the highline. Spoke to a dealer today he said they should have pricing next week. We get all those little options on the tig which is a great. Even for folding mirrors you have to buy an Audi coz most VW don't even have them fitted unless you buy a toureg or passat.

                      The same dealer told me the reason why Oz doesn't get the 8" is because there are to many options that just don't work in the Australia but then if the 8" is on the Passat that in itself is contradicting. You can never believe what they say because I doubt they even know. He said so many people have asked for the upgrade but VWA does not want to do it, to much hard work. This is what you get for a country that is on the other side of the world. Even in the USA I believe options are rather crappy too. So ringo you can see where a lot of us Oz's come from, if our CS had all the options you had I would have most definitely kept the CS if it were the same price.

                        I think it just tells you how serious VW is about the new Tiguan. It's being launched into the fastest growing vehicle segment globally and VW intends to be the leader in the segment.

                        • The 8" is definitely in the Passat plus the Performance Monitor as my dealer leant me one for a day.

                          This is what annoys me about the R - the top treats aren't available even as options. I would have picked the 8" Discover Pro plus folding mirrors in a heartbeat.

                          I don't care about sunroofs and DAP.

                          Oh well. Just have to wait for the Mk8 and enjoy my Mk7 and trade it early!

                            Don't see the need for it!!! Yeah as if a performance car means the driver is busy racing all the time and doesn't have time to appreciate a nice big screen, are these guys for real???

                            "Too much hard work", lazy bastards... Imagine that folding mirrors with lighting and winter pack are standard on the Swedish CS. What the hell does "these options don't work in Australia" even mean??? Who is to say what option is good and what isn't. Judging by this forum they couldn't be more wrong.

                            Was there another funny excuse why they decided you shouldn't be having the bucket seats or why everyone has to accept 4kg heavier stock wheels, on a track-focused car?

                            Lousy treatment from VWA, you guys should be teaching them a lesson to really treat their customers they way they should, not like feeling you're doing them a favor buying their cars. I mean hats off to actual CS buyers, they must be liking the car very much, but now that I have seen the bigger picture of how many things have been deleted, I'm almost sure I'd be looking at other choices, and I don't blame anyone doing that. When you take away most of the items that either set the car apart or make it equally comfy and luxurious as other VW models (see Tiguan) then you're sabotaging your own car (as a manufacturer) and you should be paying the price of that.

                              True to that man, it really grinds my gears when I hear about all you EU guys getting the top spec or options threw the roof. I mean it just sucks IMO. Keep in mind though this isn't just the CS even the R gets no extra goodies. The only option for the R here is sunroof (again) and DAP which is standard on the CS...lol go figure, and you probably see my dilemma. I even saw on the tele yesterday that here in Oz they're kicking up a stink in relation to the Ford Focus RS having a "drift mode" some BS safety regulation and quote: "Safety experts are furious because there is nothing stopping the so-called “drift” mode from being used on public roads."

                                Then what I said stands for the R buyers as well. I guess these are the "joys" of buying a car which is imported in your continent? Might be the same with say US cars in Europe, but I've got no idea really.

                                Yeah drift mode will bring the world to is knees most probably. "Safety experts" anyone? The Focus is still less oversteer-y compared to any average rear-wheel-driven BMW, will they ban those as well?
