There is still no update for bluetooth or wifi Car Play hey? All this time I thought it was wireless by default... This is the only reason why VW got rid of that stupid MDI cable.

One benefit over the VW interface is when Apple does an iOS update on the CarPlay interface you get the upgrade. I just upgraded to iOS 10 and noticed some small tweaks on the interface. It is a bit weird having two sets of maps, contacts, etc. though

Android Auto is actually better in this respect. The entire thing is just an app from Google you can install from the Play Store. See here:

So it actually gets updates very frequently - it's just a small app update. You don't actually need to wait for a full OS update, like you do with CarPlay/iOS, where it's bolted into the OS itself.


I had a Pioneer headhunt retrofitted to my old Golf to get Android Auto, and it was pretty cool. If it was inbuilt, I’d definitely take that though.

It should be updated frequently, but 4/may is the last update .
