  • VWA "interim service!"

Reviewed letter today from VWA dealer advising my "6 monthly supplementary service" was due on my 6 month old 8000 km Gti PP. Has anyone received anything similar and is it warranted?

It's suppose to be a freebie. Mine is also due for the service and my deals said no appointment required just stop in.

It's probably not a service as such - just a fluid level check so you don't run the oil dry.

      Did they mention a cost?

If they intend to change the oil then they are working outside of VW service guidelines

They've just gotten back to me and said its a supplementary service they recommend between log book services. $100 includes oil and other fluid top ups, "safety inspection" and "checking and carrying out any outstanding recall"??

Dealer-only thing. Not endorsed by VW.

Service intervals are every 12 months, or 15,000klms. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Sounds like a great profit centre for the dealer

Don't pay for it! I had oil topped up by the dealer for free before my fist 15,000km service.

Apparently VWA dealers only update software when faults are detected during scans. Wouldn't it be safer and more prudent to update software rather than wait for a fault to occur?

Software updates can be done either through a campaign (commonly referred to as a recall), or as part of a documented fix.

I received a similar email from my dealer, even pointing out that failing to follow the recommended service schedule could void my warranty (the implication being the 6 month service was part of that schedule when it clearly isn't). On querying the dealer by email it was confirmed a 6 month service was not required. I forwarded everything on to the department of fair trading as I believe this is deceptive conduct.

Got an email last night advising me that my 6 months old golf with 10km is due for a service. Very dodgy practice...
