Hi. Got rear ended yesterday. What would the damage bill be? Would it be a write off? Had car for only 8months. The front also damage. Side panel to A pillar seem to be pushed as the gap is uneven on both side. Didn't open the boot to see the damage underneath. Car have DAP2 with blindside etc.
Did any of the airbags deploy? If not I seriously doubt it'll be a write-off as it looks to be just cosmetic damage to the front/rear. Though it does look like the rear got a decent shove.
Any reason why the car was on a tow truck? It looks to be driveable.

No airbags were deploy. I was the second car in front so it wasn't a direct hit as such. The car that got the full impact was a little echo.
I'm hoping for no major structural damage (how do a smash repairer fixes any structural damage) As long as it drives and looking like factory I will be happy. The car is now at Currans accident repair centre in Auburn, await inspection from NRMA??! I was in a little shock and just wanted the car towed to the smash repair.
Would all the gadgets (parking, dap) sensors need to be calibrate via the ECU?
Another question:
The car have opticoat pro on it. How do I go about getting it done after the repairs? Do I just take it back to my detailer and they will just claim that through the insurance? I have a bank statement of the cost as proof.
I had a similar experience a few years back with a Touareg, where not the same vehicle the damage was like you have posted.
The interior was all intact but somewhere between towing and returning to me some damage was done to some cosmetic parts. Refused to accept the vehicle until fixed, which was done.
All parts were replaced with genuine parts and calibration done.
I had paint protection and was required to produce proof to the insurance company, I then had to get that done myself and was reimbursed my expenses.
When you do get the car back go through it with a fine tooth comb, I had the tyre repair kit (air compressor) knocked off and my sunglasses found someone else’s face to sit on. All of which was replaced by the insurance policy.
Now the bad news – 3 months to repair. But being a Golf you should not have that issue. I also was not happy at the end of the day in how the vehicle drove so ended up trading it.
At the end of the day if the repairable value is well under the replacement value than you will get it repaired. Just stand your ground and demand quality repairs and if not happy with the work say something to the insurance company.
Just went to see the car at the smash repair. Looking at $20k plus damage. Majority of the panels needs respray. Rear metal(reo?) need to be straighten. Can't open the spare wheel cover.
If the quote is too high would the insurer(nrma) get a second opion or take the car somewhere else to get it repair? I'm happy for the car to stay there. And no way in hell I'd would want a cheap repair on my car. Do I have a choice on this?
Assuming your NRMA policy was same/similar to the one I had 12 months ago then you should have choice of repairer (unless the $20k quote is ridiculously inflated in which case they have the right to seek an alternative and fix there or you pay the difference).
And the re-coating of Opticoat should also be covered (again it was in my case as well).
Fingers crossed you get a clean fix.

They will send out an assessor to validate the quote vs actual damage. Often the quote will state something like "based on visual inspection, additional damage may be evident upon repair" to cover for unknowns or they put things "on report" that might cause additional costs.
I hope it works out, remember that cars are designed to crash, so it should all go back together nicely enough.

My friend has got your car in his smash repair shop today, and he will let you know whether write off or not. My friend told me that normally if the chassis,floor and firewall are damaged, the car may be write off.
By law you need all of those damaged in order to be write off.
However, if there are 2 of them damaged, most likely will be very expensive to repair, and become write off.

A few years ago. A P plater came through a round about on my left. TalKing on the phone , hit the L/H front mudguard of my Golf. GT Diesel pushing the whole front end. Over 50 mil The whole front had to be replaced including. The whole front support panel. Radiator both headlights
The total repair was nearly. $11,000. It looked a lot worse than the damage your car suffered
