I have way too many questions...
    The horror

You'd be surprised how easily that door handle gets scratched even when being careful - my Polo has paint swirls behind the handle (door side) probably from dust which has been pressed on by fingers as they grip the handle.

I think the extra protruding handles of the Golf may be a way to avoid this.

Fyi, you can get clear 'patches' which cover up the door handle areas. Tint A Car have them now.

I don't have the patches, but it's a reason as to why I get paint protection detailing (NOT from dealer) on a new car - to 'lock in' the brand new condition/colour of the paint & all external surfaces.

Booked detailing in for this Friday btw. This time getting both the cars external & internals done.

Look up FinalInspection if you're interested.

    ----

Can't answer other questions right now as quoting on a tiny smartphone screen is giving me headaches....

    • Come to think of it, her jewellery might be causing more scratches than the keys.

Brilliant idea. I'll be getting Opticoat done at the same time my windows are tinted, but I may still go for the patches anyway. My current car is black but my GTI will be white so any scratches will be harder to spot. I hope.

      • Will be her rings. Driver's door handle area on my wife's Accord Euro is scratched to hell. My GTI's is pristine

Like the door handle patches - brilliant idea.

Someone could just jump right in. Of course would the car cut out once out of range though? Or maybe given the smarts Ralfi mentioned above, the car won't start unless the key is in the cabin? But then what happens if I jump out of the car and leave it running while I quickly dash inside the house or something?
The range is about 1m, it's designed so you have to be right next to the door. The keys need to be inside the car to start the engine. The manual covers all sorts of combinations of what happens if you leave the keys here or there while doing this or that. Needless to say it's designed so it is very hard to lock your keys in the car (but it is possible), and presumably for safety reasons the engine will not cut out if you're driving while the key is removed from the car (it won't cause you to crash if the battery in the key goes flat while driving, or you throw the key out the window.....).

That all makes perfect sense. Thanks!

I suppose the last thing VW need right now is their own ignition switch issue lol.

Not mine. I've just got the Think Blue Trainer gauges.

Thanks for that Ralfi - hopefully it comes through on a simple software update in the future.

I saw that post yesterday and absolutely love and want it! I'll have to wait till early December to test that out.
Hoping it's available sooner rather than later.

If anyone with a Wolfie R that has taken delivery could test this out it would be awesome. It looks like it may depend on what software version you're running. So that being said, and update looks very likely! Might be worth asking your local dealer if they can source/update it for you yet.

Our versions of the various applications are numbered differently, so it's hard to compare to the ones posted on Vortex fyi.

I checked mine yesterday & none of them looked anything like those.

Can't check now as car's being detailed.

Dealer called me today for a progress report. I queried them on the Performance gauges, & she said they could be region-specific. She may get back to me with confirmation...

                        • I've noticed a few people commenting on prices - I've ordered my MY16 GTI for $46,000.00. Standard with the Driver Assistance Package. A good mate of mine got his for $48,000.00 with the driver assistance pack, leather seats in the metallic grey.

Got my MY16 GTI PP today and created an adaption channel database. Found this in the settings:

                            (261)-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_SportHMI

not sure if activating this will get the sports gauges working (I don't have a lot of experience with VCDS yet and have not had a chance to change any settings). Perhaps some more advanced users of VCDS can help with this? DV52?

That sounds really interesting nsavage, would be great if anyone with VCDS can help you out.

Definitely looking more promising that it may be updated in a future update!
