If the dealer had one with a sunroof that would have recommended you take that too.
If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

        • My headlights are going really well, the left/right adjustors are really easy to thread but other than that they're perfect

            • I still don't have working headlights. They've asked me to test the bulbs with a 12V source (even though I've tried switching ballasts and bulbs). The culprit seems to be the wiring inside one of the headlights but they seem to think it's the installation issue.

"And you can just take out the bulb and ballast, use 12V power to test, if still bright, then it’s not the ballast and bulbs problem, only the problem of installation"

Anyway, I'm flying out in less than 2 weeks and will be gone for a while. Any ideas? Can the headlights be opened up to check the wiring?

              • I only just fitted mine they are a huge improvement over standard and look pretty cool too. I had a bit of a difference of opinion with WPlamps over what plug and play is you can not install these correctly without a VCDS cable and a bit of reprogramming. To me plug and play is just that you fit them plug them in and your done but with these you have to program the car to suit otherwise they do some weird stuff like 1 DRL illuminating very dim and the other off depending on what lights are turned on/off. With a lot of net surfing and Google translation I've managed to get them working the same as a MK7 R I just need to play around with the dimming a bit more but that's just personal preference. If the lights came with some installation, adjustment and programming instructions I'm sure the company would have a lot more satisfied customers.
Oh and I was another 1 who couldn't spec a car with the factory option lights in the time frame I had to work with.

                • Yeah my lights have been working perfectly too - very happy with my purchase!
That said, I too wish I could have specced a comfortline from factory with Xenons. I don't understand why VW doesn't allow it, if we're prepared to cough up the money whey not spec them? Xenons can be had on any spec German and even UK Golfs?

                    • Received my headlights 6 weeks ago from WinPower (WPLamps).
I had some fog in left headlight during the night. I opened it for driving some days. Now everything is OK. At this time no problem except the coding. When I use the side direction lights I have an important dimming difference between left and right side. I don't know the coding parameters to tune it. I also have no double U led during the night (doesn't know the coding).

                          • We're all done mate, but the general consensus is that maybe 8/12 were happy with their lights in the end, with a few people getting defectives. I don't even think Mark (the guy who supplied us) would be willing to sell to us again through PayPal at least. If you could get more people interested in the headlights, I'm sure you could find better suppliers.

                            • As Tomatoes said the GB is all done. I wouldn't recommend the process as Mark/WinPower Lamps are not trustworthy to deal with. For a product that was claimed to be plug and play, there were at least 50% of the headlights with issues. Some of these issues included scratches on the headlights, broken connectors/tabs, problems with the electronics resulting in abnormal HID and LED behaviour that have not be remedied with replacement ballasts. All these issues are well documented on this thread.

Paypal Buyer Protection is very specific but essentially you will get your money back if you return the defective item, at your own expense. Unfortunately the cost of returning the item is likely to take a decent chunk out of your refund. In my case I requested a partial refund of $US200 but was refused as I had modified (even in a non-permanent way) the headlights which is against Paypal policy.

Ultimately I can't understand why the quality of the headlights sent to us differed so significantly to those sent to the Brazilian group buyers. They've had 3 group buys and of the 60+ headlights were sent, I have only seen one or 2 minor issues reported. In the end I would not recommend dealing with WPlamps for RHD headlights.

Mark has said that his boss was unhappy with how the group buy went, that many Paypal disputes were opened up. He stated they will not allow future transactions to occur with Paypal, only Western Union. If anyone was foolish enough to go down this path, they would lose Paypal's buyer protection allowing you to receive a refund after returning the defective headlights.
