What car did you have before your Mk7 Golf and how would you compare the two?

Had a 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback. Great car. Did the job.

2014 Golf 103TSI Highline. Loaded with features and fully optioned. Beautiful car.

For me though, Mazdas service wins hands down... Could not praise them any more. Sadly though Customer service is non-existent with Volkswagen, both at a dealership and customer care level.

        1992 Honda Prelude
        2001 DC2 Type R Integra
        2008 MKV R32
        2013 Toyota 86 GTS
        MK7 Golf R on order....

Made the mistake of buying the 86 as something 'cheap' to have some fun with...pretty much regretted it from day 2.

Clearly a dealer thing. We have a Mazda as well as the Golf. The local VW dealer creams the Mazda dealer for customer service, both during the buying process and in after sales service. They aren't even on the same page.
          Looking for:- RS4 B7 Avant.
Current:- Amarok V6 Sportline; Mazda CX-9 Azami AWD

            In reverse order.....

            2014 MK7 GTI
2010 Ford Falcon XR50 turbo (XR6 turbo limited edition)
            2007 Mazda 6 Classic Sports
            2007 VE Holden Commodore SV6
            2005 VZ Holden Commodore SV6
            1978 Leyland Mini Panel Van
            1998 TS Holden Astra
            1995 Hyundai Excel
            1978 LX Holden Torana

In between my wife had a '95 honda integra, Magna, and Now a Volvo XC90.

Actually quite liked the XR turbo....very powerful, and generally comfortable to drive....but at averages of 16l/100km driving to work every day was a bit ridiculous.

Loving the Golf so far.....biggest problem has been a flat tyre on the way home tonight.......oh and the ridiculous SatNav pronunciations!

Just got my 90TSI Mk7 Comfortline DSG so thought I would chime in.

Audi A3 1.8T (years ago when it first came out... before luxury hatches were a "thing"). Fun little manual, loved it.

Volvo C30 T5... biggest mistake of my life. 16L/100km and a yearly service of over $1k.. not to mention all the "incidentals" that seem to crop up with great frequency. On top of that, it was a crappy drive. I will never ever get a Volvo again.
(My friends joked I should make a youtube video of me oxytorching the car into pieces then petrol bombing it to hell... that's how crap it was.)

The Golf so far has been a revelation.. it's less than 1/2 the price and easily more than 10x the car. I actually love driving the car!

Waiting for my Sept delivery but my last car was the fiery V10 M5.
I am actually expecting the R to be a better drive, vs the old M5 SMG which was a neck breaker when hammering it. I had the seat hugging bolsters that would automatically close in as you turned a corner, probably more a gimmick, but always put a smile on the passengers face.
Airconditioned seats were nice and the formula 1 sound will be missed but thats about it. I wont miss driving from one petrol station to another

Just the short test driving the R I felt a lot more secure around the corners, I just felt more connected to the road.

The rest of my cars are not worth mentioning.

Congrats on the GTI, quite a jump in cars.

Couldn't help but feel a little sad seeing your old car on a trailer "All unwanted cars free removal".....that's the hoarder in me.

I had a Toyota 86 before my MK7R - and to be honest I hated pretty much every minute of owning it. Tried modding it, wheels, coils etc and still just never did it for me. Lots of hype but to be honest I think it is a massively overrated car. Ok it was fun on a track but on the street was absolutely horrid!!! The second I pulled out of the dealership in my R I knew I made the right choice this time and have loved every minute of this one!

I had a mercedes benz Cla Edition 1 and I have to say that the Golf R feels twice german than the Cla, when I had the Cla I also had and still having a Scirocco R and in my opinion both the Scirocco and the Golf R are superior than the Cla, it's a shame for the benz because the design is beautiful but the car is not so great.
