I thought I would start a thread on EGR's and associated components.

Has anyone blocked off there EGR in the new mk7? Diesel or petrol
If so did it bring up any faults?

Has anyone one installed a catch can?

Thoughts and advice on any of these components and how to improve your golf's longevity

    Cheers

A blocked off/disconnected EGR will always throw a fault, usually insufficient flow or a range performance code. It's strange how all of these "tuners" are around but I have never noticed any mention of switching off error codes.

I've got my Mazda's EGR disconnected in it's de-energised state(closed) and just went into the software and disabled all error codes relating to the EGR. Job done, brand new car with virtually no carbon build up.

That's because the few of us who can do this either do the DPF or EGR removal properly, do it in such a way that the DTC's aren't an issue OR in rare circumstances we just remove the code and then the DTC is gone forever as part of the process. Its not the sort of thing you advertise though

Not a Mk7 but I just 'fixed' a troublesome Tiguan TDI about 2 hours ago oh 'off road use only'

Well if anyone has informations about how to turn it off please let me know via a pm. Because I do care about the longevity of my TDI. I work on engines and have seen the damage EGR's do. Not too worried about the DPF though.
