I have a new mk3 Octavia with the 103 tsi, very impressed and getting around 7L/100 on my second tank doing mainly city driving Goes a bit better than the diesel but also uses a bit more fuel in stop/start driving.
Skoda wasn't on my list until I saw and drove the mk3, I was looking for a Golf but you can't get Kessy which was a must have for my wife. It's built on the same chassis as the Golf/A3 and has a lot of the same mechanicals
Here's a link to a few photos of the car, it has some similarities to the A4 a couple of generations ago, which I really liked.

I average 6.7L/100 in my 118tsi - it's been remapped up to 135kw-140kw so maybe it would be better with less power. Most of my commute is motorways & if I did it again I'd go diesel.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

Here's a bit of info that explains the Audi looks, not a bad heritage, the Octavia Mk3 was designed by the guy who did the Bugatti Veyron
Quote; Jozef Kabaň started his career as a designer in Volkswagen. In 2003 he moved to Audi as an exterior design assistant. In 2007 he advanced to the position of Chief of Exterior Design at Audi. He was chief-designer of the Volkswagen Lupo, SEAT Arosa and Bugatti Veyron. Now he is Chief of Exterior Design at Škoda AutoSteve, 2013 Octavia 1.4TSI Elegance wagon

What Audi looks?
I'll be honest - when I bought my 2007 I thought it looked as boring as batpoop. 5 years later I think it looks slightly better. It's a look that doesn't date.
The driving experience is a lot better than the looks.
The Mk3 is a great improvement.
To the OP: GTD is a good car. Go for itcarandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

Disciple - ride quality is very livable. Not much difference to a GTI on the highway though the extra weight up front does make it push a bit more if you are getting up it.
Can't comment on fuel economy but for mainly motorway it would have to be around 5.5 - 6L/100 unless driven like a nob. Have a look in the Passat area - plenty of 125tdi figures there & they are more lardycarandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

Fuel economy really depends on type of driving, my wife easily gets 5-6l/100 with the 1.4 tsi when going out to see her mum which is freeway and main roads. For today which has been 80km of mixed driving the computer is showing 6.1l/100. So I would expect the 110 tdi the to do better than that. An added benefit of the diesel is that the fuel is cheaper than the 95 RON.
My other car is a diesel and one thing they really don't like is lots of short trips as the engine seems to take quite a bit longer to warm up.Last edited by occy; 05-01-2014, 07:15 PM.Steve, 2013 Octavia 1.4TSI Elegance wagon

First we get the103 and 110 then the GTI and in a couple of months it will be the R.
I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see another couple of model options/special editions before a mid life update.
I'm not holding my breath but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a GTD here in the next 12-18 months when the marketing guys are looking for something new to bring people back into the showrooms.

As a GTD (DSG) owner of nearly 2 years with 35,000 km and a 103 TDI manual for 3 years with 60,000 km before that (nil experience with petrol Golfs), I have found the fuel consumption of both consistently around 5L/100 on highway/city combined driving. I travel from Gosford to Paddington approx 3 times a week, morning non peak, arvo peak period. There are times the MFD will read 5.6 for the trip home but then show 4.3 to Sydney. I also drive around the Gosford area quite a lot. The traffic plays a big part in my consumption rates. I have also completed a few 1000km round trips to the country, loaded with 2 adults and a ton of luggage (wife likes her luggage) and averaged 4.8L/100. I have also found driving habits have a big effect on consumption rates with the GTD (as with all cars, I guess). I would say I drive to the traffic conditions. I take off normally from lights, although I have on a few occasions spun the front wheels, but usually drive with the traffic flow. I keep to the speed limit, what else could you say on an open forum.
As for ride quality, I keep the car in comfort mode most of the time, changing to sports mode for windy roads and for a bit of fun driving, there is a definite difference between the two. I have never driven petrol golfs or GTIs so I can't really comment on a ride comparison except to say I love the ride and handling of the GTD.
Overall, I am a daily driver who drives to city and highway conditions.
PS. I had to order and wait 6 months for the GTD. I couldn't get one in any configuration in Newcastle, Gosford or Sydney.
