I've just coded one for a customer down to 60% and sounds much better (on a Mk7 R)

OK, here it is (courtesy of Golf mk7 FORUM):
Go to:
- A9 Struct. Borne Sound
- Adapation 10
- Select "channel of structure borne sound " (only choice)
- Std value 100% - change to the value you want stored in % (60% has been suggested as a good happy medium, adjust to 0% if you want no noise/mini vibrations).
- "Use change code for change approval" (not sure what this means??)
Now to find someone with a VCDS cable or trudge back to the dealer...

Soundaktor
Anyone in Melbourne with VCDS and micro CAN who can assist with a simple coding of the soundaktor synthesised engine noise for Golf R mk7? Would really appreciate it. I have the instructions so should be pretty simple.

I'm out west, so if you want to get stabbed and have a few other things switched on then just drop me a PM. Only thing I haven't gotten to work so far was the XDL adaption in the brake electronics.Volks Handy

Hi.
thanks for sharing the method to quiet the soundaktor without physically disconnecting it! I'm new to the GTI and keen to make some nice changes to the car. If I replace the exhaust the least thing I want is a fake engine sound interfering.
I assume the VCDS changes an be made by the dealership/service department? I'll print the instructions just in case and take them in.
The car has a nice natural tone already so I don't understand why they need to add this. At least they haven't just made it totally synthetic with options to choose the car sound you want :/ .... that just seems really lame.

I have laughed for years now at the folks that get all huffy about a device that improves the interior sound of the vehicle and does not ever get annoying. All it took was one person to think it was bad somehow, and now everyone, without evidence, insists it must go. It was not developed and specified without significant evaluation that customers prefer the sound with it more than without. It is certainly staying in my Mk6 R.

Hahaha depends. If comfort is your thing, it is great. If you think your a racecar driver, then it is bad because it sounds like a boring european car. :pVolks Handy

I disconnected mine in the Mk 6 for a while but reconnected it because I enjoyed it. That said I meant to do the switch thing so I could turn it on or off depending on my mood and driving style, but is never got around to it. Don't see the point now as the car is going in 3 months.
I think being able to switch it on and off is best compromise. I think I'll do that on the Mk 7 maybe.Looking for:- RS4 B7 Avant.
Current:- Amarok V6 Sportline; Mazda CX-9 Azami AWD
Previous - Mk 6 R manual; Mk 7 R manual; Passat 130 TDi Wagon. Mk 7.5 Wolfsburg Wagon.
