  • Sat Nav Sd Cards

    Hi Guys,

I picked up my 103 Highline the other day and found that the Sat Nav Sd card was not with the car.
The dealer said that they will have to order it from VW and they are unsure when it will arrive.
I was wondering if any other new onwers have had the same problem? if so how long did it take to solve?

That's shocking! As the good you purchased does not fulfil its intended purpose, you ought to demand some compensation under the Trade Practices Act. At least get some money back to be honest. Very poor form VW! One of the main features of the Highline is that SD card that has the maps, turning the radio into a sat-nab, you ought to have it there straight away!

Does that mean you can't play music from a SD card and use the GPS at the same time, or can you install the maps to the Hard Drive . or music ?

The cars fitted with Sat Nav have two SD card slots, one for the Sat Nav and one for music.

              Hi Nick,
I picked up my 103TSI Highline also without the satnav sd card on April 23 as they were apparently not then in Australia. I was obviously very happy to take the car home without satnav rather than wait for it to arrive! My dealer then rang to call just less than a week later to say that it had arrived and I picked it up that same day. So it shouldn't take too long!

I also asked my dealer about the voice control, as it wasn't working in my car. They contacted VW Australia and apparently VW made a mistake in the brochure specification- voice control is not available in the Australian market.

How are you finding the car so far?

Yes I am quite disappointed. The voice control button in Australia just acts as a mute button and it clearly said in the brochure that voice control was standard! Another publishing mistake.

Good to hear, I was worried that I would be waiting a while for it when I just want to try it out!

So far so good, I am very happy with the car, still getting use to the dsg gearbox and the stop-start but all in all I have no complaints. I love the look and the interior is just a nice place to be especially at night with the led lighting. Our other car is a 118 and I find the performance very similar but sometimes I do miss that twin charge engine!

How are you finding your one mate?

Given that button can easily be changed between voice control and mute in the Mk6 using VCDS, that might be a simple fix later one when Ross-Tech get their hands on a Mk7 and document the new control modules.

I'd think the SD shortage would only be a problem for a short amount of time and shouldn't be ongoing in the months to come. I don't really like the idea of maps on an SD card - more chance of it disappearing.

Might be a bit off topic but some VW dealerships are part of parent companies that own dealerships of other car brands. The one I go to in Canberra even share the same service workshops with their other dealerships. However I have heard more bad things about their VW team than the other ones they run. This brings me to ask whether it is a dealership thing, or a VW thing...

When I owned a Toyota for 5 years in Sydney I have gone to 3 different Toyota dealerships for service. I don't remember having any sort of problems with any of them at all. The notion that VW dealerships are shocking may be an effect of how VW has trained them. If dealerships are asked to react a certain way to problems then that's what they will do. A dealership refusing to fix a problem or saying there is no problem (when in fact there is), may not be of their own doing but rather as instructed by VW Australia.

I find it too convenient if VW Australia blamed their dealer network for its problems.

                            HI Guys,

The car comes already allocated the SD card automatically if it has the sat nav option.

If the dealer hasnt given it to you they either forgot to order it against the car or dont understand the procedure.

                            Cheers,

                            Boris

                              Hi Guys,

Sorry to bring this up again but I am still getting the run around from my dealer over this SD card. Apperently they still haven't arrived and 10 days have now passed since I have picked up the car. I need to know if any sat nav onwers have received the SD card or they getting the same story. I'm tring to work out how to respond to the dealer and just need to get some information.

                              Cheers
