Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Why not go down to a dealer and see what price they can do. The market is cut throat so any time is a good time to deal.
It looks like the TDi has again moved to a price 2500 more than the petrol.

You may be surprised to find they have a TDI with assistance pack coming in.

After an initial try with a couple of dealers, I would indeed be surprised. It seems they are interested in selling what they have, rather than trying to attract orders for future delivery, by keen pricing. I'll try some others. Hope springs eternal.

      • Has any one had their clock automatically adjust when crossing time zones? There is an option to have the clock time set by the GPS signal. I have checked this option as well as checked the national borders in the navigation system. Frustratingly when travelling between the Gold Coast and the Tweed Coast (Pottsville, NSW), a regular occurrence, my clock does not adjust to the GPS satellite time.

An excellent question and I would love to know the answer for the Golf GPS system/clock. My current car (not a VW) is supposed to adjust automatically in the way you describe. It does adjust, but any logic involved defeats all understanding. I suspect the GPS knows something about roads, except for recent changes, but knows very little about state borders. I often cross the same border at Tweed Heads and I have learned to rely only on my wrist watch.

Fair question - I took the decision to purchase from current stock as I wasn't fussed about having additional options. However given that the current 'runout' is till end of Feb and quite a bit of stock has moved (eg manuals in WA almost all gone), suggest mid Feb to knock on doors. My brother in law in a similar situation - he will need to make a decision soon if he wants his preferences in a vehicle by the new financial year.

I took the route of talking to dealers and found a guy that gave me what I think is a very fair deal. It just goes to show that not all dealers are out to rip you off (just some of them!). I have just ordered a TDI Highline with leather, driver assist and sunroof. It is quite a long wait for delivery, because it will only be built around March but I am very happy with the decision. If the car is anywhere as good as my previous Golf, I will be set for the next 8+ years.

                      • I see in the media release for the new Polo that it mentions "mirrorlink" for the infotainment system. I wonder how long this will take to filter through to the Mk7 Golf and whether there will be a "software upgrade' available for earlier Mk7's. This may also explain VWA's decision not to include the media port. Only time will tell.

                        • Question:

Do I need to take my car in for a quick check when it hits 6 months? 12 months seems a tad too long. I've been checking on the oil/consumables and so far they are all filled.

Also, does the car send a warning on tyre pressure? (i have not read the full manual. guilty.)

                          Thanks guys!

                          • there's no scheduled interim check. 1st service at 12m or 15k whichever occurs first.

can't help with TPM. RTFM I guess. Possibly a button in the glovebox?

Anyone else noticed a burning brake/clutch/exhaust smell on their new dsg cars? Mine only has 70 kms on it so I think it's just the components wearing in but wanted to see if anyone else noticed it?
