No GTD coming at this stage - its been canned.
Picked ours up this afternoon - you can see some big improvements over the MK6 and also some cost cutting in some places. Interior is a great improvement (evolution). Suspension is radically changed. DSG software has evolved, aerodynamics & underfloor stuff has improved well too.
Electronics are brilliant, Nav system makes the RNS510 look like a 386 PC.
Who wants to bet how much power a 100kw TDI puts out at the hubs on the dyno? 20km's on it - will know in an hour or so.
No air to air intercooler on the 110 TDI highline, it relies on a water / air version that shares radiator / engine coolant. Different DPF design again.

Keep us posted - sounds like there will be quite a few disappointed diesel guys who might need to look at a tuned TDI if they want to hit up mk7. Or look for a used mk6 GTD..

Well true to current VW form (since the introduction of the MK6), this car makes considerably more horsepower & torque than VW advertise. Over multiple consecutive dyno pulls it makes 109kw & 319nm at the hubs. You could factor in around 10 - 15% loss through the drivetrain. Now this car has 25kms only on it, so it may even loosen up a little and make more than that.
Surprisingly the air to water intercooler system worked really well & we see virtually no power drop off over 6 runs.
What I will do is overlay stock vs stock MK6 GTD on Monday when I power up the dyno.
You can feel an enormous difference in the weight split & newer engine location vs front suspension already, and chassis stiffness improvement is most apparent over the 6.

From the dealer who just finished training a week ago. P.S. The GTD was classified as a sales failure, not a sales success in OZ - very low numbers, lowest of any Golf ever I was told. Nothing wrong with the car - I believe VW should have spent some time & effort in marketing it - unfortunately it was almost invisible to the average buyer - the enthusiasts knew of it.Originally posted by andrew7 View PostSource for the cancellation of GTD in Oz? Very hard to believe given success of MK6 GTD in RH markets such as UK and Oz (and LH ie Europe)
Hopefully they will change their mind further down the track (like they did with the Scirocco).

Well that makes sense since the whole cooling system acts as a heatsink - you'd see the coolant temp rise alarmingly before any IC heatsoak became apparent. The downside is that the cylinder inlet temp will always be above the coolant temp (but consistently so).Originally posted by Guy_H View PostSurprisingly the air to water intercooler system worked really well & we see virtually no power drop off over 6 runs.
Real shame about the GTD not getting to us
