Me too, I really dislike the red insert on the Mk7 Gti, unless the car is red I think it just looks cheesy.

I will be watching the mk7 GTD closely, as it could possibly be a replacement for my mk5 GTI, I reckon with a tune the Mk7 would be capable of 160kw which should bring it down to the high 6's in terms of 0-100.

The Mk6 GTD is nice but I hated the stock mk6 GTD rims (easily replaceable though), it looks like the rims on the mk7 are much improved, however if I had to find one complaint is that the GTD misses out on dual tail pipes again, it has twin pipes but not dual i.e:

    GTD:

    GTI:

    MKV GTI

The GTD has so much torque that the power deficit compared with the GTI is not an issue - once it's rolling.

However, to address the GTD's off-the-line performance (a weak spot that will not be resolved by more power) the GTD really needs a twin-turbo for more linear, GTI-like power delivery from idle to around 1750 rpm when, relatively speaking, all hell breaks loose in the single turbo.

BMW has a twin turbo diesel in the 150kw 123d and even VW has one in its stable (in the 130kw Amarok).

Time they put a twin-turbo in the GTD I reckon.

If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

I assume one day yes, but the mk6 Jetta is barely two years old - it doesn't share the same model cycle as the Golf.

Having said that, no doubt engine updates/upgrades could be added during the mk6 cycle.

Speaking of diesels, I reckon BMW's tri-turbo diesel is the maddest of the bunch.

The Amarok as a nice 2 liter bi-turbo engine in it. 136kw and 420nm

I would love to see a twin turbo diesel in a golf as well but im guessing VW are holding back because there is no fwd dsg capable of that much torque, the dsg in the more powerful Audi's are all longitude. I'm hoping this changes in the future...

The golf dsg can handle that if tuned properly - tuned GTD's will exceed that torque figure: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ing-82721.html
MKV Golf 2.0 TDI DSG Sportline. Just nice.

There is a difference between what a gearbox can handle and to what the manufacturer is prepared to support, car makers tend to over engineer most things to protect themselves from warranty claims.

As it is VW do not offer any longitude dsg gearboxes with more then 380nm, even the larger v6 engine Passat only has 350nm.

                    When will we see it?

Red GTD with nice leather [not Mercedes man made] would be my choice. But when will we see 'em here?
