  • Wll there be a Golf GTI wagon????

So, in line with Skoda's RS wagon, what are the thoughts re VW designing a GTI wagon?

Now that Ford have the Focus ST Wagon (sadly not for Aust according to the latest Wheels mag), it would seem a suitable choice...

I chose the Octavia RS for the load carrying features, as well asd the "sportyness", so I reckon there are many who would like a GTI in a wagon...

    Thoughts?

I don't think there would be a need considering the Skoda vRS fills this niche market well.

Not that that is really that relevant, but to be honest I don't think VW nor Skoda really care that much about resale value, nor their customers (especially in Australia). A lack of a Golf GTI wagon is probably the only example where VW isn't shooting Skoda in the foot. That the Golf GTI (let alone a wagon version) is more expensive than the bigger and better equipped RS is probably even more reason why they don't do a wagon.

The GTI is the original hot hatch, not hot wagon. It is a classic proven formula with cult following. Why would VW want to risk it with a wagon? They may make a hot wagon but I doubt it would carry a GTI badge. I think an R wagon may be more likely.

They'll most likely stick with the Golf Wagon if we even get it. Those things are rarer than Viper Green Scirocco R's.

If there going to do a cabriolet gti then why not a wagon. Just from that they have already gone away from it just being a hot hatch People want more versatility in there car while still being the brand/spec they like. Even supercar manufactures are heading this way. Most
Make a four door. And the ferrari FF Is designed to take lots of luggage and be drivable in all conditions.
I would buy one over the skoda even if it was $5k more for the simple fact it would be all golf not half one car at Front. And a different car at the rear. Until the new one comes out which knowing them will be the same anyway.

There's never been an R wagon. The closest there's ever been was a VR6 in the Mk4, but that didn't really have sporting pretensions.

In fact since the Mk4 they've never even fitted a 2.0 petrol engine to a Golf wagon. Clearly they haven't seen a need for it thus far.

Probably a reference to the R36 Passat.

Good point. The R36 is in an entirely different market segment to the Golf wagon though. But they are awesome.

I've always hated the Thunder Bunny kit. It looked terrible before (barring the .:R GTI Customised one) and still does on that.
