  • Gday Guys,So Ive got a 6 month old White Golf R which i love, unfortunately on Thursday night whilst visiting the Central Coast for a friends wedding the next day, my friend and i went to the local pub/bottle shop to get a few beers and when returning to my car we jumped in and hit the start button and nothing...... then a error message came up on the dash "STEERING LOCK FAULT STOP" then another "MOVE STEERING" the steering was moving fine but no ignition or anything else.

So after a call to VW assistance and an hour later a driver arrived who couldn't do anything to help( this is another story which i will fill you in on after i speak with VW Australia tomorrow) it was decided the car needed to be towed, he took the car out of Park which he ripped my dash apart to do but he couldn't turn off my park break. this is when he told me he would organise a tilt tray tow truck and they would skull drag my car up which i said there was no way this was happening. so after some arguing and some phone calls, he tells me a tow truck is on its way with jockey wheels to safely move the car then he left me there, a few hours later a tow truck turns up and he had nothing with him and said he wouldn't move the car until the brakes have been release which i agreed, so now my cars stays where it is for the night.
so luckily i had a place to stay and the next day i borrowed a friends car and drove to the local VW service centre 30 mins away and was told they couldn't do anything and i needed to get the VW assistance guys back to disable the park break and tow it to them.

The next guy that arrived and was great he disabled my park break and organised a tow for me, this unfortunately is now around 1 pm when my car finally gets on the truck on its way.

So i rang the service centre to ask what was wrong and they confirmed they had the car and hadn't looked at it yet around 3:30, so I waited to hear whats now going to happen as I need to be able to drive back to Sydney on the Saturday and go back to work or sort something else out, at 5pm i rang back to find out everyone had gone home and i am now have no idea whats happening and im stuck.

So i ring VW assistance to ask what to do, when i was told that you get a hire car, up to 3 nights accommodation and or a $100 when you break down 100kms or more away from home. I was then told I didn't qualify for this as I broke down 98kms from home and thats it end of story, so I own a 6 month old $60k car that has broken down and i have been totally abandoned on the central coast.
Im lucky i have a friend that lives up there that has very generously lent me a car to get back to Sydney.

Im very disappointed that this situation can happen, I understand that cars do have problems but the way i have been treated has been terrible. Tomorrow I will be contacting VW Australia to see what they are going to do about this.

On a side not has anyone heard or seen this fault and have any idea what was the problem

I know how you feel mate, I've been driving around in a faulty car for 15 weeks and VW customer care has stopped contact with me, once they have the cash you are of no more use to them.
Hope you get your issue sorted quicker than me.

          • So bit of an update on my Golf R. The Steering lock mechanism has failed and awaiting parts to arrive from Singapore.

It took a while to talk to the right guy but a few days ago I was contacted by a gentleman from VW Australia to resolve my situation, I am still waiting for an ETA for getting my car back and its been a week today so far since it broke down, but he has taken control and organised a prestige hire car via Europcar and once my car is repaired it will be relocated to my dealer in Sydney and i can pick it up from there... its taken a while to get result but i'm defiantly feeling better..

            will keep everyone updated

              • My wife has had it come on a couple of times but haven't had it checked as to what it is yet. She has left it for a minute and the car starts with now warning...

Other weird thing we have had is the radio on occasion goes a bit quieter, sort of like when reversing and it lowers the volume for the beeping except there's no reason for it lower the volume and it doesn't go back up. In fact if it happens a couple of times in a row the volume is right down. Anyone come across this one?

                it's a MY16 R

                Thanks,
                Rob

JB1 handles upgrades well too, you can use "Map 6" to customise your boost curve and aggressiveness according to your supporting mods.
First attempt at launch control tonight after fitting the JB1 box.. Wooooooah! What a rush. These tuning boxes make for a seriously quick little golf!

I may have a standard one available in the next few weeks. What do you need it for?

Just need to put it back to stock temporarily.

Really only need to borrow for a week and return it or rent it or buy it if someone wants to get rid of it/doesn't have room to store it.

So today was a tad warm, 43deg, in Sydney. I went for a longer trip (about 70kms) today to have paint protection applied (film on front, crystal serum on back). No issues at all on the way there. On the way home, however, it was like the transmission thought it was in race mode, but Eco was selected. Sharp gear changes, holding the revs higher, very jerky throttle response, etc. I tried all the other modes and they had a similar feel. Could this be due to the heat (eg aircon working overtime - which would be understandable by this felt like overkill, transmission fluid too warm...)? Could ECU not have started up quite right? I couldn't imagine it has anything to do with the paint protection. Oil temp didn't get above 105. I've yet to start it up again after letting it cool down.

                          • Hi I was just wondering if anybody has had problems with the comfort close using remote. For some reason my drivers side window will not fully open or close when fully depressed the window just stops as soon as I take my finger off the button (all other windows operate okay). This affects the automatic closing/ or opening using remote. I reset the window and it works for a while but then needs to be reset again. I took it into VW and they confirmed the issue but then said VW are aware of the problem but at this stage there is no fix. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if they were able to get it fixed. Cheers

                              • Yeah I know how to reset but I was wondering if anybody has had this issue fixed. I have to reset my window at least once a week and if I forget than I need to walk back to car and manual close. Just a pain really.
