Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Me hainsey? If so, it was at Mike Weber Prestige and Performance. Just 1year/15k as per VW.

        • Can I ask if anyone has successfully rid their Golf R of the bell ringing sound coming from the motor under load?
Do I just accept it and fit an after market exhaust to cover it up?
From what I could find it appears to be coming from the turbo and will not be fixed under warranty:

          • Mine does that too.

Replaced the deadening with dynomat in the foot well.
Replaced the heat shield with a dynomat heat shield.
No where near as bad now.

cheers, I think I'll just look at an exhaust/tune and improve performance at the same time.

They all do it, there are many many threads about it on all different forums. This is one of the most annoying "features" with the R for me. If you find a way to remove/cover it up I would love to know. Coming from a beastly sounding V8 to a ring a ding ding turbo was quite annoying when I first got the car, now I mainly hear it when the car is very cold because I drive it in manual mode 90% of the time. If you leave it in auto you will be hearing it constantly.

                • Good day volks,

Can I ask those of you who've installed VWR springs on their Golf R, where did you buy the springs, and how much?

Did a search online I could only find this place

Welcome to Racingline - Racingline Aus

Also, when you put new rims and springs on your R, would that void the warranty?

                  Thanks!

Only would void the section directly connected to it.

Same does with tunes, if it kills your engine, you are out of luck, if your electronic windows fail, they have to fix.
                    Etc.

                            • Hi Guys, has anyone bought a VWR R600 intake? or any other cold air intake for that matter? Reading the guff on the R600 intake, one thing is alludes to is it can reduce heat soak which is one thing I am interested in? Interested in any thoughts particularly from tuned vehicles?

I have, but I havent fitted it yet.

Compared to an open filter, definitely, you will reduce heat soak.

Compared to the stock airbox I wouldn't imagine a huge difference in intake air temps. You may see marginal power/response gains over the stock airbox if you're tuning the car, which is where the main benefit is over stock. With the higher airflow from higher boost, a freer flowing intake will be beneficial. It's never going to be a huge difference, but its the cost versus gain which you need to weigh up.
