                • Hey guys,

Back online after a long hiatus - some familiar faces here, some new.

After owning my Mk5 Pirelli for 6 wonderful years, the time has come to part with it and get something new. I've gone with the new R, in white/manual - and no options. Yep, a pov pack!...

Pick the car up this week (hopefully), so we'll see how we go. The only mod I'm going to do is (initially anyway) the removal of those ridiculous wheels and put on a set of 18" motorsport wheels. I'll have to slightly reduce diameter as I'll be using 225x18R40's, but we'll see how we go... If the gap in the arches or reduced offset is too much to bear, I'll tweak the suspension or put in some very subtle spacers.

Those of you who know/remember me, will remember the stupid amount of work I did to my Pirelli, well this one will remain a bit more stock than that. I've got my crazy weekend car (Exige) to play with, so this daily driver will remain pretty much stock.

Just a few questions for you chaps -

                  - The adjustable suspension (comfort/sports/race etc) - is this something built into the hardware itself? What happens if you adjust your suspension (KW's etc) - does this function effectively stop working?

                  - That lousy sat nav screen. Is it as simple as buying the upgraded 8" screen from overseas and swapping it out, or is there more that needs to be done?

                  Cheers fellas.

Edit: also, can you lads let me know what you think of the sound quality of the standard stereo? The RNS510 I have in my existing Pirelli sounds like crap, but the RCD510 (8 speaker I think) that was in my GTD was FAR better... I could get by with RCD510 quality, but not RNS510 quality....

                    • Hi Kryten2001.
Not a 100% sure on how they do it with the DCC when replacing springs/coilovers but i know that the setting still remain once the stock setup has been replace, im assuming it is a sensor type item that runs to the shocks. I have the VWR springs and it still works and there is a couple of people around that have The KW coilover setup that works with the DCC. I think Avdo_would be able to explain a lot better as he replaced his whole setup himself.

As for the sat nav screen i read from VAG motorsport that are about to start distributing the direct swap that each unit is individually coded to each car so if you dont buy from them or or a proper VW source/replica person that knows their stuff then you might run into problems.
Who knows that might all be crap. Just trying to help

This is the latest without me emailing. I am considering it but waiting until next year.

Thanks.. From what I understand - if you replace the springs but keep the shocks, DCC remains (albeit completely 'recalibrated' as the new springs change everything). If you change the shocks, then you will obviously lose DCC because the new ones can't be controlled by the car (as they don't have that function, or are incompatible with VAG even in the case of third party active suspensions)....

At least that's what I've been able to ascertain...

                              Thanks for replying.

                              • New R is here! Fully optioned but still missing the Discover Pro like everyone else

That is the biggest disappointment, overall an awesome package!
