  • It won't lock the brakes or anything.

If you hold it on, it will do an 'emergency stop". I recommend people try it at say 30km/h in a quiet street somewhere so they know it does in case they actually need it...

    • Generally with any sort of parking brake these days if you engage it, it'll just pop a warning that you shouldn't be doing it at that speed or make a beeping sound.

Ahh okay, so what happens when its pressed quickly (like he did). The car did jolt but didnt come to a stop, would it have been partially activated?

        • Don't forget the park brake is also the emergency brake (used in case of loss of fluid from both systems)...

I shouldn't think there'd be lasting damage actuating it when driving but just like the old fashioned mechanical version you wouldn't wanna do it often...

          • Sorry if I'm being dumber than usual, but did the nephew press the button down (ie normal release function if car is at rest), or pull it up (ie normal engage function if car is at rest)?

            • He would've pulled it up, pushing down when driving doesn't do anything.

To confirm, the EPB, emergency function or not, is rear wheels only? I can see that being quite dangerous in the wet, unless ASR can somehow correct the car's direction!

              • Its rear wheels only, but will not lock the wheels.

Seriously, test it out some time. Wear a seatbelt though.

                  • As mentioned, no maker is going to allow a vehicle into the public's hands if activating the e-brake would be damage the system or do damage to the car.

Yeah, being electric it would makes sense for it to check if the car is in motion before activating fully.

                      • I checked it out yesterday, in the rain, like a typical brainless 19 year old P plater haha! At speed it will slow the car down considerably, but won't lock up even in the rain. The ebrake doesn't need to be pushed down again to be disengaged, instead it simply disengages about 1/2 a second after you let go of the switch. A warning does come up on the MFD as well.

Also don't bother trying any fancy drifts with it either, even with ASR off, the brake vectoring system puts the car back on track.
