Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW 502 15W/50 oil in 2014 TSI 90

Having ongoing high oil consumption in a Mk7 2014 TSI 90 petrol with 205000km . Needs topups ~1L every 1500-2000km.
Has been thoroughly checked by indie mechanic, it's the well known issue of loose rings.
I use VW 502 oils because they're ~half the price of Castrol professional III and I generally drive under 10 000km per year so am on the fixed service intervals 1yr/10k km. (Was bought used from a country driver).

Currently using Castrol Edge 5W40 with VW 502 approval

The question is, can I use a Nulon 15W/50 oil which meets or exceeds VW 502?
Full Synthetic 15W-50 Street and Track High Performance Engine Oil (SYN15W50) - Nulon Products Australia

I'd like to try it and see if it improves the oil consumption - but obviously not if it's going to cause oil starvation or damage the turbo!!

    Thanks in advance
