Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Warranty advice MY14 GTI - main rear seal leak @27k KM

    Hi,

I have today noticed (and confirmed with a mechanic) my main rear seal between engine and gearbox is leaking and am interested in some advice regarding warranty.

Purchased new Mid 2014, car has had required servicing though some not within time frame. Most through the POS which was Austral VW Newstead in Brisbane who have made a mess or stuffed up just about every Service (even losing my vehicle offsite for 3 days). Last general Service was through Jax while having tyres replaced (mostly due to distrust of Austral).

The car has only driven 27,000 km, however the stated warranty is 3 years unlimited km.

I don't view the main seal as something that should fail within this time period or distance and would consider it an issue of Statutory Warranty obligation.

I'm after some advice about how to approach this with Austral and VW Australia given the disparity of km vs the warranty timeframe. Also any thoughts on VW's response to statutory obligations and what is expected reasonable for this specific seal/issue.

They may be great and make no complaint but I'd rather have in mind where I stand before approaching them given their past attitude which has been difficult - even where they have clearly made mistakes.

    Cheers .

I haven't seen any error codes - does a failing PCV show up on the dash as an error? Afterr doing some reading I am beginnning to see this is a common VW failure point in the MK VII and often caused by the PCV.

Guess this info and what I'm finding on the VWVortex forums etc lends me more weight to have it warrantable.

I understand VW has issued an upgraded seal for this model since my build would have occured?
