  • Apple Car Play Issues

Hi, I have a 2016 GTI PP. Lately I have had issues when using Apple car play. First time i was listening to a podcast when the connection dropped out and the car couldnt find my phone to reconnect. Same thing happened today when listing to music.

Has anybody had similiar issues ? and if so is there any easy solution.

Are you using the same USB cable to connect the phone, and is it a genuine Apple USB cable? If nothing has changed with the cable, and given the Infotainment technology won't have changed in your car and to date it has worked fine I reckon the issue will be with the phone. Are you running latest version of iOS, if not update it and see if this helps. I would then do all the usual with an iPhone when it starts acting up - turn on and off, system reset, back up and restore iOS etc.

I had that issue in my GTI, using a genuine cable fixed it.
Also had the same happen in a work ix35, same thing, genuine cable was the fix.

I have that issue on a regular basis actually. Sometimes it doesn’t connect, sometimes it disconnects and sometimes it’ll connect and disconnect in really quick cycles.

I’m using a 10cm Cygnett cable from JB. I found the solution to be to grab the USB end of the cable and push it into the USB port firmly, it seems to be working fine now.

I bought one f those 10cm cables, but find its way too short. 20-25cm is the go I reckon.

I only picked my car up this week but think the Bluetooth phone app to be way easier to use than the carplay app.

Just the standard Bluetooth connection, not using CarPlay.

Yeah. I got a few 10-15cm cables in red and black to match the GTI. Then I found it a pain when I pulled up to pick up the missus, had to unplug to play on my phone and switch from CarPlay music to Bluetooth music. Apple cable is just long enough to charge and play. Cable does sound better with Apple Music, by a smidge. One day iPhones and VW will make use of AptX.
SD-Card with flac sound damn good on DynAudio, but we are getting off topic now...
