  • Golf R 7.5 right side (driver side) headlight

A kangaroo hit and run cracked the lens of my headlight unit. It cracked where it connects to the black plastic frame on the top. It’s hardly noticeable but water will leak in. Does anyone have one? What are my options? New unit is $1750 from VW. 2018 model.

Thats a lot for a led headlight
Maybe some glue to seal the crack be worth a try

Thanks I think so too. I’ve taped it up at moment.

Try a wreckers yard? The newness of the headlight might make it tricky to source.

I got a replacement wing mirror for my car for $200, rather than $750.

Are they doing aftermarket LED lights that support DLA yet?
Most of the ones I've seen are MK7.5 style, without the clever electronics.

I reckon best bet is to try and repair with a glue of some sort and keep an eye on wreckers.
Do you reckon one of those windshield repair kits would work? They have the resin that sets with UV lights.

You'd better buy a used light on ebay, part no: 5G2 941 114 C, move 2 control modules to new light. Replace an aftermarket part will lose dla Function. also bring DTC to 4B, 09, A5, effect 13 maybe. then you'll lost lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control , Emengercy Assist. lots of function won't working.

Thanks guys for the info. I’m considering the lens glue options and then wait for wreckers later. Some good news from my dealer - the sales person is willing to arrange the part at staff price.

Why not claim on insurance? Do you have a high excess?

Excess is $1500 and I’m not sure I want to ruin my no claim bonus. I’m waiting for a quote from a repairer. The fender got a small dent which I’m hoping to be able remove without respray. Might just have to pay the excess in the end as there might be other damage. So it all depends on how much to do without going through the insurance.
