  • Jb4 installed and thoughts

    Hi guys

Thought id share my experience in installing the jb4 in the mk7 r

It’s a fairly easy install if you watch all the how to on YouTube. Hardest part was getting the wiring through the firewall. Very fiddly and had to be on my back in the passenger foot well.

Once installed the box itself sits pretty snug between the battery and air box.

After I chose map 2 the car is now on a whole new level!!! A couple of launch controls and you notice it!!!

I’ve had my r for a year and was really hesitant in doin anything in the warranty period but now I’m just enjoying what this car can bloody do!!

Now all I need is to data log and get George to help me with some tweaks!!

    Safe driving everyone

I'm in the same boat as Kachingg, not to keen on tuning it but a bolt on box might be the way to go for me, just gotta remember to take it off service time.

Had mine for 13 months. It’s a 20 minute exercise to install and de- reinstall it after services. Really easy...

The advantage of the JB4, selecting added power is easily controlled from your mobile here's a few shots of the latest JB4 Mobile app controlled with OTG USB cable or Bluetooth. If you want stock power select MAP0 added power MAP1 or more aggressive MAP2 or custom MAP6 on the fly, pretty impressive.

Such a good little unit, and bang for buck. Knowing you can take the JB4 out for servicing and warranty retention was the winner for me. No doubt, dedicated tunes are "better" and may even look at getting one upon expiration of the warranty. You can also run the JB4 over the top of the tune for more adjustability & logging etc.

                Thanks for all this info

Where is best place to order the JB4 in Australia (Melbourne) for my MK7.5 Golf R

Also to be able to use the mobile app (looks like the ios app is about $40) - do I need to order anything extra or is this available as standard

Also what price is the JB4

                Tks

You need to buy the JB4 connect kit as well, it's about $230. The JB4 itself is $650.
                  I purchased mine from AutoInstruct.

I just ticked all the boxes, came to just over $1000. Didn't really need the cable ($60) as I'm using the connect kit and the aluminium weatherproof enclosure is a nice piece of kit, but not that cheap at $140.

If something is going to go wrong after installing one of these, hypothetically of course, what will it be?

As long as you plug everything in properly (you can't really do that part wrong) I don't see anything that will go wrong. It's pretty fool proof. I guess if chose map6 and started messing around with boost and fuel etc you may run into issues if you didn't know what you were doing. Map1 won't be aggressive enough to cause any damage. Don't forget the aussie Golf Rs lose about 20kw compared to the euro market, due to the climate.

Once installed, you can log the car with the jb4 and send the log to Burger Motorsport. George will fix you a custom map to get the most out of it. I'm just running map1 at the moment (due to the summer heat) but there are plenty of people that run map2 on a stock car all year round with no issues.

Skoda Owner here (same as Mk7 GTI PP) with JB4,
Had it for 12 months/15,000km and Love it.
If you have a Manual Gearbox, Make a Map6 and have boost limits per gear, as I've been running on Map1 and Ive just started getting clutch slip, thats the fault of VW low Torque Clutches rather than the JB4 problem.

I always take it off for Services, as someone said, 20mins and your good to go.
The logging feature is great and BMS has been a great support to me and others.

Have had one on my car for 30k predominately running a custom map6, the car has been faultless and has been on a dyno producing 208kw atw in 2 different shops
I did not like the way the standard maps made power with a front wheel drive, map 6 being customisable with boost by gear allows the car to be very drivable at city speeds with a brutal midrange and great power up until about 5500 - our engines run out of fuel and timing at this point with the stock ecu parameters

208kw that’s with full exhaust and e85? I was hoping these 2ltrs could go better
