Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tornade Red with bronze wheels - your thoughts?

Hi all, I don't know any car guys in real life, so I registered just to ask this question.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the colour combination of Tornado Red and bronze wheels? I've always had 'safe' wheel colours like silver or black in the past, but this time I want to be a little more bold (without going too crazy). I think red/bronze compliment each other quite well.

I'm thinking about going with either OZ Racing Alleggerita HLTs or Ultraleggeras, mainly for the weight savings as opposed to the looks (although I think they look pretty cool).

Here are some photoshopped mock-ups I made using various pictures from the Internet. The problem is it's very hard to know what the 'true' colour of the OZ Racing bronze actually is, given that it all depends on the lighting. I've tried my best to provide a variety of different possible looks and lighting scenarios.

Please let me know what you think, good or bad!

    Thanks

I've personally never really been a fan of bronze wheels, because I associate it to look quite dirty. And having these would drive me nuts because I'd always be wanting to clean them lol.

But in terms of these colour wheels against the model of the car and the red, I think they look alright, but nothing special. Just my opinion though.

      Nice choice of wheels.

Seeing as you are asking, IMO the bronze looks OK, but I think gloss black would look significantly better (it would match the black trim elements around the rest of the car which look great against the bright red). Both colours would need to be cleaned about the same regularity.

But you should really be buying what YOU like, and not take too much notice of the opinions of a random set of strangers on the net.

OZ bronze is fairly dark - although you are right, with the right light they will still come up quite differently. It's possible some pictures may look different if the wheels are actually OZ gold?

I went OZ graphite on my TR MK6 and that worked well; but ultimately run with what suits you. There will be undoubtedly be some red/bronze mixes somewhere in the wheel thread.

Black and Red all the way. Although Red and black would also be acceptable.

You're right, the OZ bronze is quite dark, a little too dark IMO. I thought about OZ gold, but I have the opposite problem: whatever pic I photo-shopped always looked way too loud and blingy!

I wish they made a colour in between the two, i would jump on it in a second knowing I had made the right choice.

There's a bloke in the States with a Lapiz R that runs OZ ULs and he has painted them at least three or four times in the last year or so - they pop up in the wheel thread, or on one of the US forums.. Mk7 or Vortex, I forget.

But having forked out $3k+ on a set of OZs (18" Alleggerita) I can also understand you'd want a finished product.

If are after OZ at some point keep in touch, may hook up a mini group buy.

Bronze wheels on red GTI is not quite my preference but it may be yours.

Being the owner of a Tornado red GSW, I like the bronze wheels.
