  • Bulb warning light

    Hi All,

I have a mk6 golf tdi and just recently the bulb warning light has come on (solid orange). Have checked ALL bulbs and they appear to be fine, strange thing is when using indicators both flash rapidly from the dashboard but external are working, however either left or right I use starts with a solid glow then starts flashing normally.

As all the bulbs are functioning I'm suspecting a relay, any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

Had similar thing. The warning light would come on and I'd check all the bulbs and they'd be fine. I finally caught the culprit as the read number plate light. It was intermittent. YOu might have a similar situation? Might need to jump out of the car as soon as the warning light trips.

If you know someone with a code scanner, the car will have logged which light is causing the issue.

I've had this sort of thing. The body control module wiring is very sensitive to poor conductivity and resistance. Can be anything from cheap bulbs to the globe sockets having corrosion. My fault ended up being a tail light seal that had leaked and there was a little rust on the connectors.

This is common to many cars with warning status update systems that rely on current to detect errors. Check the lights for leaks or rust on the sockets, it's pretty easy on these cars. If no problems change all your bulbs at once for quality ones. Replacement lights are less than $50 a corner on gumtree.

          Bulb warning light

Thanks for the advise guys. Since my post the problem went away, actually as soon as I stopped driving/finished journey, when I got back in my car again there was no warning lights and everything was normal as if nothing had happened and has been that way since, strange one.

If the issue happens again I will do what you guys have mentioned and investigate further, hopefully not change every bulb! [emoji52]

          Thanks again.

Yeah the warning is intermittent. Sometimes there then goes away. It's to do with the resistance in the circuit. When you finally lose a bulb just replace the opposite bulb at the same time and check for water leakage and rust.

Mine finally peaked when i randomly got 20! light warnings (every single light) at once. They all still worked but the system was going bezerk. It was rust on the contacts.
