Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Eeeekk...White Smoke on Start Up

So haven't driven my mk6 R for a couple of days as i blew the starter relay fuse and had to order one in from VW. So replaced the fuse this evening. Cranked it over and a minute or 2 after i started it at idol the exhaust started blowing white smoke, but after a quick spin no more white smoke....Sign of a turbo on it's way out right? Things to consider...car has travelled nearly 85,000ks so question is... generally how long do the K04's last on these cars? Second thing to mention....i did clean the engine bay the same day i blew the fuse, so has not been started then (had a bad day lol). Could this have something to do with it?

Anyways...hoping to hear some feedback from you guys as i haven't had the car long enough to know where to start trouble-shooting .

    Cheers

Just condensation. there won't be anything wrong with the turbo, they last for 200000k easy with proper servicing.

When I suspected head gasket failure I noticed the white smoke in the morning as I was actually looking for it. Looked around at other cars and nearly every other car had it first thing in the morning, especially when it's real cold.

Ahh ok, Well it was sitting for 3 days and when i started it last night it was fairly cold, so sounds like it is probably fairly normal. Kicked it over again this morning and no white smoke so i was probably worried about nothing. Thanks!
