    Manual golf clutch noise

    Hi all,
just wondering if anyone out there has a manual Golf and if you notice the squeaky clutch noise when you put your clutch in or let it out, say before you start the car? My car is a MY11 golf 118tsi.

My car is parked in the garage and I tend to jump in start my car with the door open, then get out turn off garage lights and be on my way. The clutch squeak prior to the engine running is loud and has done it since new. My previous cars have all been manual and never made that sound.

I've reported it to vw during a service and I get the usual reply, can't fault.

So if someone out there with a manual golf could jump in their car and push their clutch in and out and tell me if it squeaks like a 1990 Kia I'd appreciate it. lol.

    Thanks.

If you take your car to a dealer always demo the issue to a tech so they know whats going on, so much better that way. Can you hear if the noise comes from inside or outside?. get someone sat in the car and press the pedal whilst you have the bonnet open so you can see what side the issue lies....VDUB...

Yeah I plan on doing that at my next upcoming service, just wanted to see if it was normal before I said anything.

I have a manual GTI mk6 and I can say I definitely don't get anything like that at all. Mine's only 7 months old though...

          Manual Clutch squeak

My 118 manual does the same thing. It's getting a service this Friday so they can look at it then.

Hey mine started making a squeaking noise at the friction point when it was about 10 months old (14,000-ish km). After I listened closely it sound like an old spring being slowly stretched.

Suggested to my dealer it might be the pressure plate as it sounded like springs and could only be heard outside of the car.
In their infinite wisdom they assured me that it was just the pedal. They oiled the pedal and said it was fine, went to pick it up, it wasn't fine.

Then they said it must be a bearing, 3 days later, they said it was fine, it wasn't fine.

Finally they said oh, it must be the pressure plate . Another 3 days later and the car was good as new.

                Hope it all goes well

Thanks, at least I know it's not normal, so I'll push for a fix when I get a service soon. Cheers

                      I've got a GTI Manual 2011 and i've had a similar issue.

In the beginning i only noticed it first thing in the morning but it came as i was coming off the clutch to go forward on a slight incline. but as with jameshero i notice it at the friction point. this persisted for a week or so but then virtually went away. Off course this was the time I dropped it off at the service department for them to do a cold start inspection and alas they found nothing.

however in the last few days i've been able get the sound back - but this time it occurs as i'm reverse parking up a slight incline. again around the friction point.

Another sound that has been persisting rather annoying is a rattle in the LHR door. The VW ppl have tried on three occasions to fix. 1. replaced "door clips" 2. added lubrication and 3. found some loose screws so they tightened. drove out the dealership and the sound was still there. the rattle occurs while cruising at say 80-100kms or when going 30-60kms has anyone had a similar issue..?

i've got it booked into see VW in a couple of weeks but your thought/comments would be greatly appreciated.

on a side note has anyone had this issue reported in the ninemsn?? VW owners complain of 'terrifying' speed loss

Could it be that the clutch has become glazed and that at the bite point you get some squeak?

The bite point would be when you potentially have the greatest difference in speed between the friction surfaces.

May be time to take it to a clutch specialist. I know it's something that everyone who sells or services clutches will consider themselves to be.

Who makes the clutch? It is not VW. They will buy in clutches from specialist manufacturers. Maybe contact them.

You don't have to be riding the clutch to glaze it. If it is not setup properly it could glaze.

Like with brakes, using it might not solve it as in a glazed state, it will generate more heat which will keep the glaze building up.

I'm now a victim of this, only on first engine start of the day, reversing or moving forward. Otherwise it happens when the car is on an incline. Once the car is warmed up, you can only replicate on inclines. Based on all the youtube videos i've watched, its definitely the throwout bearing of the clutch.

I doubt the dealership will repair this under warranty since my car is tuned to Stage 2. Been quoted by a third party mechanic this job will cost approx. $1500 to replace bearing and a new OEM clutch at the same time.

fully, if your squeak hasn't been resolved then I have a theory.
I have the same noise. Engine off, pedal pushed, squeak.
I have been able to associate the noise with the angle of my leg as I push the pedal. I am tall and my leg naturally pushes slightly from the left onto the clutch pedal. If I push the pedal with my leg straight, like a short arse would, the noise doesn't occur.
The same thing happened with a Honda Accord Euro I used to have.
It seems to me that the pedal box or pedal itself flexes slightly when force is applied obliquely causing the squeak.
So if you are tall and the VW mechanic is less so that might add up.
