My 2010 is roughly the same price as 3 R32s on the web. All are older than mine and out of warranty. I'm tempted. Should I?

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Trade in my GTI for an R32?

I understand.
The R32 is a pretty special Golf. They are NOT anywhere near as good to drive as a GTI though. The Haldex version in the R32, even with updates, is nowhere near as good as what comes standard in the Mk6 R. They are a lead tipped arrow which needs alot of money to really get any faster...but who cares, they sound awesome.
But believe me, they're not worth $30,000.
Something you will notice is that thanks to the high prices people are not actually buying them.
High 20's for a low KM late model R32 tops. Any more is dreaming, but power to those advertising them and able to find someone to pay it.Last edited by Tom87; 15-04-2013, 08:43 PM.

I can understand why you would want to get a r32, I was after on when getting my gti. However, other than the amazing sound of the v6, I don't think a trade down on one is a good idea. You will get an older model with less features, and the interior would be a big step down over a mk6gti also.
But it's ultimately up to u, not what others think.

I too toyed with the idea of an R32. Like everyone the big draw is the sound of the exhaust! Ooh haven't heard anything so sexy since.
Drawbacks are dated interior. It is a step backward from mk6. The car would be very thirsty and supposedly the older Haldex was too slow to react in shuffling torque rearwards.
Since I can't see myself realistically buying one, particularly at those unrealistic prices, I couldn't tell someone to do any different to what I decided.Skoda Octavia Mk3
