Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Golf R clunk when going around corners

    Hi guys.
I searched for this but couldn't find any threads, feel free to point me in the right direction if it has been discussed before.

About 6 months ago my 2011 DSG R made what I would describe as a mechanical clunking sound from the rear as I was travelling around a roundabout and it physically felt as if I had run something over when I heard the noise even though there was nothing on the road.
I passed it off as nothing but recently the noise and feeling of running something over has happened about 4 more times and seems to be getting more common.
It kind of feels as if one of the rear wheels is loose even though they aren't.
Every time it has happened the car has been turning a corner or changing lanes either left or right.
I've had the car checked over when it was last serviced but they couldn't find anything wrong.
    Any ideas.

    Hi Shadowman,

    No responses yet?

I have a 90TSI DSG (very different to the R) but Ihave some "cluncking" as well. It is most obvious when I go over speedbumbs, especially when I get of the brakes just before going over the bump. There are posts on this forum about a metalic sound like a can of screws being shaken. I have mentioned this to the dealer on several occasions but was always told it's the DSG and its normal (which I think is not). I am thinking it is some loose heatshield or something ????.

So far I have not been able to find a solution for this but maybe someone can shed some light on this?

    Cheers,
    regu

Yeah regu i thought someone may have experienced this. Maybe not ?????
My noise doesn't sound like that. It makes the noise and feels as if I run something over with my back right wheel.
The dealer checked it out and told me that my rear bumper wasn't fitted correctly from the factory but I don't think that is what the problem is.
