Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I picked up my new GTI DSG last Thursday, so it's barely 8 days old and my tailpipes are kinda sooty, too. I was a bit surprised.

My dealer told me to bring it back in 12 months (or @ 15,000kms), but I think I'll take it back around 1,500km for a checkover and to see if they can fix the wastegate rattle... Wife's Tiguan doesn't do it but mine rattles like it's got a loose exhaust heatshield.

Might go check my oil tomorrow...

Picked up my R last Tuesday and the tail pipes do have soot on them. Wiped them down last night and I'll monitor it now.

When should i be checking oil level - car hot or cold? I checked it this morning before starting and the was at the lower level, just covering the MIN text and not even in the 'middle' dipped section. Hope that makes sense. I've only done 1,600 klms so far! Seems low... too low, and too quickly!

The colour of the oil was pale yellow, but you could see tiny black specs in it and felt a bit gritty (or I could be imagining it).

I wonder is VW dealers to free oil top ups, like they do at Audi.

The level should be close to the top mark when cold.

Good luck getting anything free out of most VW dealers...

However, I'd certainly be hot-footing it back to the dealer if my new car lost that much oil in 1600K.
