Golf R + Semi-mountable kerb

I am wondering if there are any Golf R owners here that have some experience with driving it onto a driveway that has a "semi-mountable" kerb. A semi-mountable kerb is a type of gutter the same height as a normal gutter but has a chamfer on it.



Not sure about the rest of the states but I have seen them around the place in SA. I am concerned that the nose will scrape when approaching the kerb before the wheels reach the kerb or that when backing out and the front wheels reach the road, as when the wheels hit the road the shocks will probably compress a bit as well.

I am wondering if these types of kerbs are golf friendly otherwise I have to approach the local council to replace it for a fee.

If it is a necessity to do it I would:
- Drive very slowly
- Attack it on a 45 degree angle

That's how I handle steep speed bumps and the likes. Although in my .:R32 I don't attempt these semi-mountable kerbs. And my .:R32 could be lower or higher and most certainly would have difference clearance levels to your R...

I have a semi mountable at my place, except that the it has rounded convex curve rather than angles in your example above. I go up and down on an angle and have about a 5mm clearance. No lower springs or coilovers possible for me .

As for council replacing for free , I don't think that is going to happen. I can hear the conversation in the council offices now "tell him he is dreaming"

Thanks. I think I'll just wait till it arrives and I may have to put a steel ramp or something as a temporary solution. Its a bit of a bummer as there is only one other house on the street that has this semi-mountable gutter. Everyone else has a barrier gutter with the driveway invert cut in.

The council only changes it for free if its a first driveway in a normal barrier gutter. It costs about $600 to change a semi-mountable from memory.
