This may be of interest to the Mk6 crowd (if you don't already know)
End of production is scheduled for 7th June 2012.
Not quite. Dealers are not able to order any more Mk6 Golfs after 7th June (Excluding Golf R). They will still be building them up till around November.
Mk7 production is not planned untill January 2013
MY13 Golf R - Rising Blue ** SOLD** New toy wanted
MY12 Passat 125TDi Wagon - Reflex Silver (The family wagon)

Interesting - source? Does that include the GTI? Seeing as it's unlikely the GTI will be launched at the same time as the standard Golf, as per VW's usual staggering of model launches.
Assuming the Mk7 will be built in Wolfsburg, presumably they'll need a couple of months complete downtime between ending production of any Mk6 and commencement of manufacture (pre-launch) of the Mk7, to allow for line tooling.

Quite correct - I should have titled the post End of ordering. It still means that if you want to order a unique specification of Mk6Golf including GTI you would need to do it fast.
I don't know if Golf R will actually be allowed to order or if VGA will just import a selection of cars and distribute them amongst dealers that want them?

A friend that works for VW UK was at Wolfsburg 18mnths ago and they were putting in the robots for the production line to build Mk7. I'd say they are pretty much right to go any day. We'll still be at least 6months behind the european release.

Interesting how they say the 0-100 time of the new one is only 6.5 seconds, despite it having slightly more kW, a lot more torque, and a lot less weight. I assume they're understating on purpose as I'd expect it to be closer to 6- flat.
I spoke to several dealers when I was buying my GTI in early december and they couldn't get any stock, only what was either here or on a boat was available. I couldn't even spec additional options like ACC or Dynaudio, but I was able to get white with Detroits so very happy anyway.
