  • AirCon Question

    Hello All

Might be a silly question, I noticed that when I switched the AC off, the temperature controls still work? It was actually still cooling the air or heating the air when I changed the setting on the temperature dial. I've always thought that if you switch the aircon compressor off the air con will just function as a blower.

    Can someone please correct me?

    Thanks!

    Regards

If the aircon is turned off, changing the temp will just be changing how much hot water from the engines cooling system is going to your heat exchanger and therefore how hot or cold the air coming into the cabin is.

If it was hot outside, having the temp setting at 16c wouldn't make the car cooler. All that would happen is that there would be no hot water going into the heat exchanger but the air coming in the cabin will be the same temp as the air outside.

In winter the heat exchanger can heat the cold air up though.

I've always thought it was a compressor at work, never did I realise that the engines cooling system had a part in this. In this case then it explains why when the AC is turned off and the temperature is adjusted there still is some sort of temperature change.
