Driven a GTI and an R, but not a Roc, Do they have a lot of wheel spin and turbo lag?

The R being 4WD is a diff story, but i know the GTI can have it here and there - so imagine the Roc may do so even more often? although the XDL diff helps alot.

I don't notice much more turbo lag. Where the k03 spools at 2000, the k04 is around 2500. There is a bit though.

I wouldnt say wheel spin. More like axel tramp. Thrash the accelerator and even a GTI could spin. Learning to modulate the power is key. Which in turn makes it faster. Find that point where you know you've given too much and drop it back a bit.

Fat sticky tyres can't be wrong either

Wouldn't a remap increase power at mid-high rpm's and give the impression of more turbo lag?

Yes to the first question No to the second.. but it increases the torque so there for you get more useable power earlier and more significantly in the power curve

              roc is impractical.
if that's the way you're inclined, why not buy a dedicated 2 seat sports car?
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

When i was choosing between the Golf R and Roc in the end the roc just wasnt practical for the fact i have elderly parents who i sometimes need to transport, picked up the r on Friday and love it

Practicality is not a must, but sometimes good...?

I think an R would be my choice but as I said too rare atm in White, saw a few interstate spec'd up to 70k - way too much!

What do you value more? practicality or performance?

Being the owner of a APR equipped GTI and having driven a Scirocco R, I'd say power is fairly even. However, the Scirocco is definitely a more sportier drive and if you could do without leather or 5 doors, it's the one to go for given that it comes standard with a number of desirables such as ACC, 19's and Xenons, etc.

They are very good looking in the flesh; pictures do not do it justice! I think even better looking than the Mk2 Audi TT, which is a fairly bland shape when compared to the Scirocco.

I don't believe that you're paying any price premium to be in a Scirocco - have seen specced up 5-door GTI's being advertised for over 60k!

                        Congratulations Domz.

Out of interest what was the final decision based on, and was there much between them choice wise for you in the end?

FWIW I picked up my Roc today, having chosen it over a spec'd up GTI 2dr. The Roc is a simple non optioned model, but with the options I wanted on the GTI the price was barely any different. It was just that those options (and more) were standard on the Roc. I didn't have to worry about any back seat passengers though, although they do seem to fit in there fairly easily, as it's surprised me just how big the car is inside.

                            Thanks guys

It came down to two things that locked me in:
                            - GTI in colour combo + options was in stock
                            - Driveaway campaign saving me a few more grand

and for whatever reason i just love having a sunroof.. and 5 door convenience helps as well.

either get a stock Roc not in white and pay an extra $8k or get the GTI i want? then again i saw a Roc the other day and it looked hot

Make sure hte sunroof drains are cleared often, VW's have a common problem where the drains clog up and the overflow spills onto the front passenger footwell.
