  • Replacement tail lights

    Hey Guys,

Reversed into a tree today (doh) and luckily only manged to take out my left hand outer tail light. Can anyone point me in the direction of somewhere I can pick up a replacement?

I've had a look on ebay and at the moment I can only find the inner tail light for LHD golfs. Is there a difference between the LHD and RHD cars and year models or can I just pick up any MK6 tail light?

    PS. I've got a 2011 TDI.

    Cheers

Unlucky man. I'm pretty certain the only difference between LHD and RHD cars is that the reverse light is on different sides (at least that is the case with my DS3). Did you break the bulbs as well? Or just the plastic housing?

It was one of those fast moving trees

Only the housing is damaged the bulbs still work fine.

If you can put up with GTI tinted tail lights (), then I'm sure there are many forum members who've upgraded to LEDs that'd be happy to sell you their set for a reasonable price. I'm one, but am in SA so that's probably less than useful for you.

Take a look through the http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...hts-40280.html thread, and maybe post a query in there. Failing that, you can also post in the Wanted to Buy section or check out the Recommended Repairers and Parts Suppliers forum.

BTW, AFAIK, the outer tails are the same for LHD and RHD (even if the part numbers differ, which I can't specifically recall if they do).

          Thanks AdamD much appreciated.

Any rough guidelines on what I should expect to pay for a set of old GTI tail lights?

I bought a perfect set off eBay last year for $120. I wouldn't pay anymore than $150.

I honestly have no idea mate. I'd check how much a dealer would sell a new set to you as a guide, but remember - chances are most people who've got a spare set never plan on using them again, and they're just gathering dust in the garage. I'd be guessing that most people would be happy to unload them for a pretty low price - like $100 or so.

I just put mine up in the sale thread for $375. I called the dealer and they quoted me $500-550 for a replacement GTI set, so I thought $375 was fair considering they had been removed from the car by the dealer on delivery. Personally I think they are worth more than $100. I'd rather keep them collecting dust and as a backup if that's all I get for them.

Edit: Just dropped them to $300.

They might be worth more than $100, but it comes down to what the market is willing to pay for them. 😊
