Nah, there is no replacement for displacement

Argh, the joys of new car ownership.

The only time my GTi feels remotely quick now is if I crank the stereo up so loud I cannot here the engine then i imagine as my foot is buried into the carpet that im only using a light throttle application LOL

well, i built my car for cornering, not for straight speed performance ;p

GTI is the wrong car for straight speed or 1/4 mile hype...

how bout u try catching up with me on the corners in exactly a month time?

but i will bring a mate this time, so it will be a bit weight handicapped..

then if still unresolved, we will compare laps times on the 2nd June

              I GOT IT!!!!!!!! WHOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!

What can i say? Well it is 'better' than the 130i in many areas..... i think of the 130i now as more of a refined sportscar drivetrain in a hatch body. But the GTI is more of a pure hot hatch in that it can give you say 90% of the thrills of the 130i, but still fit 4 extremely comfortably.

Its the sorta car that if my Mrs and i had kids ide be happy driving them anywhere and everywhere in it!!! AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!!!!!

Only problem is that in my stupidness i made a small scratch on the drivers side door. Its a few layers of paint (not down to the metal) and its about 2cm long. Any ideas besides a full respray? (yes i'm totally gutted, but trying not to think about it.....)

Also with the run-in period..... do you just increase the revs slowly each week till you hit 1000km like with a NA car?

                Ohhh, poor widdle fanboys.

The 130i and the 335i both drive better, from an enthusiasts perspective, than a GTI or R.

They give better feedback as to what the car is doing.

This has nothing to do with speed.

There is a long thread on running the engine in, do a search on it, about 20 minutes of reading for you.

                  Congrats with the car.

warm the car up gently over a period of 10 mins or so, changing up earlyish etc etc, dont let it rev too high.

then, once warm, KILL IT. no, this isnt a joke. hammer the fcking thing. then, let it cool down for a minute or so before switching off.

i got badly laughed at by extended family members when i told them this (after they'd asked about the running in period).

my response: "sorry, it's not your mitsubishi magna, or your mazda 3, or your holden jackaroo v6 - it's a turbo engine that needs load to help turbo seals bed in, to prevent glazed bores, etc"

on the weekends, take it up old road or nasho, varying revs, giving it plenty. you dont want the engine to be sitting at the same revs for extended periods of time (eg buying a new car and driving from sydney to perth... your engine wont be happy).

congrats! life is good, when you know that the best way to run these cars in is to thrash the crap outta them

The original Suzuki Swift GTi required a similar run in.
