Recommended v Optimal Tyre pressure for Golf R 18s & 19s

Wondering about tyre pressure for the Golf R, given that there are different tyre sizes and suspension configurations for the Golf R I was hoping folk here have had their respective models long enough to have a preference.

The 19s seem to have a combination front and back recommended pressure and the 18s are 270 bar or 39 PSI all round. This seems quite hard but does make the steering lighter and the ride bouncier ( especially noticeable in comfort mode for ACC)

Also whilst I have your attention , interested in recommendations for a quality tyre gauge, I have one of the generic pencil readers

I had 3 - 4 assorted guages, some cheap and some not so cheap, all with different readings so I bit the bullet and bought ones of these

The 19 inch on my 118TSi I run at 40 - 42 PSI. (225/35/19 size tyres). Doesn't matter whether its on a R, Z, GTI or whatever. Depends on the profile of he tyre.

i run my 19" oz racing utra leggera with dunlop sport maxx 235/35/19 on 38psi. its nice and firm.

hmmm. just adjusted my tyres to the recommended setting and now getting the tyre pressure light/warning coming up.. must check if you have to reset the sensors

really? i had a look on the tyre and it says max is 50psi, but my tyre shop guy says he likes running 19" tyres in that size right around 38-40psi.
i havent had any issues yet and i check the tyre wear regularly, and i havent noticed any uneven wear in the 12k km ive driven. ill be rotating then at the service to see how things go as ive read that its not a good idea as it can mess up the steering.

Always reset the TPMS after adjusting pressures (glovebox switch)

As for tyre pressures, car specific so use the pressures listed on the placard on the car.

I run 40psi in my Bridgestone RE050A 18s as per placard (I rounded up when converting bar to psi). I haven't really felt the need to experiment, I think VW go to a lot of trouble to figure it all out to be good for punters like me. The ride can be quite 'jittery' on corrugated road surfaces when the ACC is set to Sport but otherwise I love the way the R handles like a go-cart in Sport. I did the Great Ocean Road like this and it was fine. The boss didn't complain once in that run, she can be understanding sometimes.

As an aside, people who don't have ACC underestimate its impact. In Comfort on 40psi the ride is still quite firm, but it won't make my mother complain about the ride. I've never seen anyone with ACC regret having shelled out for it, but I've seen a few people who don't have it wish they did have it.

42psi here - on the 19's. I like firm rubber. Below 40psi and it feels "spongy" to me.

Better put me out of my misery, I stopped buying those mags years ago, I got tired of comparos between exotics I'll never have a chance to own eg Zondas and 599s.
