  • Odometer Error ?

    Hi All,

The other day our Golf Wagon developed an issue with the odometer.
It has stopped counting klm's and flashes between the odometer reading that is no longer counting and the word error.
The trip meter also has gone completely. Speedo still works fine as does distance to empty - although it is of no use as you can't see any trip or odo information. Car is less than 12 months old with around 13K on it.

Apparently I need the MFD replaced. The first one VW attempted to fit could not be programmed to work -waiting on another one for them to try.

I have searched on here and have found nothing similar - plenty of similar stories in the US.

Anyone here had or heard of this and if so what was the outcome ?

    Cheers

Haven't heard of that happening before, you sure it's a bad thing? (just kidding)
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

Take it to a dealer, there is a software update for the instrument cluster to fix this.

I work at a dealer and have fixed this problem only a couple of weeks ago. Your dealer must be stupid? There is a TPI on it. AS well as a service campaign/recall.

Dealer says we need a new MFD which they tried to install, but were unable to program apparently. They're getting a new one in next week.

When the problem is fixed the odo should be right as the speedo still works, as does the distance to empty - you just don't know the distance your travelling.

When hooking up a scan gauge the is ecu is still counting klms even if the odo is not showing them - no free klms unfortunately !!
