I went Subie (modified XT) to MKV GTI to R

The GTI was a huge step up in quality over the XT but lacked character and AWD

The R was a huge step up in driveability and fun over the GTI and gave me back AWD

I decided to forgo a few unnecessary options and get an R just built so got the car 3 months after build (and order)

Fantastic car, even though mine got damaged 2 months into ownership (and still sorting that out)

Probably improved resale value over a current Audi S3 model which will be old news in 12 months. Patience is a virtue.
        Cheers.

Yeah, but then you look at getting one, and after the waiting period a new one is coming along.

And none will be as nice to the now infamous neighbour Ray's R32, so whats the point?

True, just like i did on getting a R. I planed to order a CW R since last May, but nothing new update info i can get until last Oct that I hear the car won't deliver until this Apr which way too long on wait for me, so I decide talk to my dealer and do a swap for another similar
spec R with RB which already build and ready to load on boat. As result, I will pick it up today which make me happen just miss the CW color.

          Joy

if cancelling now due to a proposed 9 month wait, and then re-ordering once the Mk7 arrives, won't there be a similar wait time then? and by that time, aren't you better off waiting for the MY14 or 14.5 , or 15 and so on and so on. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I live in the hear and now... and please, I am sure you understand there is no offense intended there.

But I do agree.. you do have options.
I also priced up an S3. also has ridiculous wait times.. but you can get a nice one which does not have sat nav, is the outgoing model, and my11 plated, for $88,861 OTR. over the phone I chatted him down to $76.200. and it was not similarly specced to the R (flat bottom steering wheel $700, sat nav $5K).
I later haggled down a Limited edition S3 (5door) to $78K. that's a lmost $20K more than my higher specced R is costing me, but I would get free servicing for 3 years and a nicer sunroof.
Again, both these models are outgoing, 2011 plated vehicles currently in stock.

I think just hold a sec. The Roc is now released and tehre will be others in teh same boat, that may be switching their orders. I would suggest you get friendly and chatty with your dealer about finding out what other cars are on their way already scheduled for production that are unallocated or dealer only allocated, and do a swap. You may have to compromise on options or colour, but you can still negotiate....

just means you will get it sooner.

I just did the exact same move.
Previosuly had a tuned Pirelli and just picked up a new Golf R.
Initially was sad to see the Pirelli go but seeing the R in the driveway more than makes up for it.

The Pirelli seemed a bit more agile and 'felt' a lot lighter than the R.
In gear acceleration was strong but easily overwhelmed the front wheels when pushing hard.
The Pirelli launched pretty well for a fwd cart but would wheel hop and needed an anti lift kit or better suspension to really cope with the extra power.

After only a few hundred k's the R feels a lot more planted and is just a blast to drive.
Definitely a lot less body than the Pirelli although my R has ACC.
To me the R looks a lot meaner and im loving the deep exhaust sound.

All in all i dont regret the decision to upgrade.
The Pirelli was a fantastic car but for me the R is simply so much better in every way.

I ordered in Oct, just called the customer service number set up purely for providing information.

The guy says, "yes, your car has been ordered", I said, "well I'm aware of this thankyou, but do you know how long till it arrives?".

"oh........ don't know, thanks for your call", so I ask, " is there no expected date? can you offer an estimate?" "uhh.... no, sorry, thanks again for your call"

                          That was worthwhile.

And it has to be CW, just has to be. Just looks fantastic.

yes, that is a bit of a nothing "special number set up by VW to assist customers waiting for their cars"

                            assist?

                            in what way?
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

Well, sorry to revive an old thread, but I've just been back onto the VW customer support number now 5 months after the first time in which they could only tell me that it has been ordered, and they can still only confirm that the factory has the order!

They 'think' it will be allocated for prduction in July, however cannot confirm.

Anybody out there have any idea how long to expect should the production start in July? Are we talking months still you think.

Really starting to consider dropping it.

Mate, if you ordered it in Oct and they still can't tell you the status of your car, I would start to ask questions. Something doesn't sound right.
