  • I'm in WA buying from QLD - worth getting it checked by someone?

I'm looking at a Golf GTI and the range and price in WA makes buying from interstate a decent option.

I think I've found the car I want and it's new, might have been used as demonstrator but only has 50kms on the clock.

Would it be worth getting this checked out by someone (RAC, VW specialist) - my view is that it is overkill for that sort of thing but wondering about checking the condition of the paint, scratches, if there's any glaring faults or if it drives and makes screeching sounds etc.

The dealership is 20kms from Brisbane city (SE) - if anyone has opinions/ideas, under $100 I think it might be worth getting it looked at?

    Highway or Bryan Byrt??
Either way, you are buying a new car (or as new). Are you looking to get it shipped or driving it backed (hint: get it shipped, one stone chip and you'll be kicking yourself)
I've driven a demo for someone from Syd before, but someone else (who isn't crazy busy) might be willing to help out.
Or you could always give Alba European a call and ask Jimmy to go check it out - he is one of the best VAG (yes, with a V, and he's scottish, not German) mechanics in Brissie.

I bought my S3 from Queensland and had it trucked to Perth.

An inspection will cost you around $100-150, but well worth it.

I had mine inspected by Mike Webber at Prestige + Performance :: Audi Service BMW Service Volkswagen Service & Repairs Brisbane

the Seller will need to deliver it to mike's for the inspection.

make sure you ask Mike to inspect for all the usuals, with a focus on crash damage, excess wear and tear on brakes, clutch etc and anything else not covered by a warranty.

One word of advice - don't just make an offer "subject to an inspection", make it "subject to rectification, at your sole discretion, of any issues identified during inspection, by your choice of inspector".

Note that the dealer wont be honouring a warranty if its interstate, and will be supplied by VW, so see if you can knock the price down a bit further.

also note separately that you cannot keep the queensland plates and so you dont need to pay Qld rego or stamp duty.

however, when it arrives here, it will be unlicencsed (and uninsured) and you will have to get a temporary driving permit to get it from transport yard, to the licensing centre

This car has already been registered and has QLD plates - AFAIK and what the dealer said is stamp duty has been paid - you don't pay stamp duty in WA, and I think I have 3 months to get it registered in WA.

The thing I'm worried about is a stonechip - the dealer said the freight company has insurance to that effect but I'd want something in writing that it gets delivered in the shape it left - which brings me to finding a way to get someone out to look at it.

EDIT - Sorry Gareth - I think you're right, need to de-register it and then re-register it. Surely you think living in a federated country it would be easier than this!

If you are shipping it, consider using these guys.

CEVA Logistics :: Car Transport | Car Transport Interstate | Car Transport Australia | Car Moving | Car Carrying | Vehicle Transport | Motorcycle Transport | Light Commercial Vehicle Transport

I know a few people who used them to ship their pride and joy, and where happy.

No doubt CEVA is on the top when it comes to car transport but now in 2024 there are many other reliable and reasonable car transport companies in Australia. About 3 months ago, I used a car transport company named P&S Logistics to move a car to Brisbane for my customer. They did the job very well and transported the car to customer safely in good condition.
Anyone using this company for vehicle transport? I would like if you share your experience here.

did you end up buying it? I've seen a few ads online for some pretty cheap cars, but it's hard to tell if they're legit or not. Definitely curious to hear if you went ahead
