Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Photoshop Challenge - painted mirrors on Rising Blue Golf R

Have secured a loaded RB 5 door DSG which is about to be put on the boat for delivery to australia in late December, so I should be able to collect it by early Jan. Pick up will be a big day for me, after test driving the R, I couldnt believe how much faster it was than my current Mk V R32.

Anyway, to my point. Has anyone had the mirrors on their R's painted to match the body.

I know it's a personal preference and most of you prob like the black mirrors, but my current thoughts are it's old fashioned. Not too many years back, if you bought the poverty pack of any make of car it would come with unpainted mirrors. Now, virtually every manufacturer has mirrors painted in the same colour as the body, even the base models.

So, if anyone has painted their mirrors, could you put up some photo's please. If not, is there someone who is more computer savy than me who might be able to photo shop a rising blue with painted mirrors (just the top half, like on the GTi).

    Thanks in advance.

Only did this really quickly (as in 1 and a half minutes) as I have to bolt to work, so colours probably not quite right.

At least with the R the mirrors are painted in high-gloss black, so it's not quite the same povo look as an unpainted plastic mirror. Quite a few people have gone the other way (painted their mirrors black - golf_punk has just done it), but I haven't heard of anyone having colour-coded them.

sortofbigbj - many thanks for your effort. I will defenately be getting my mirrors painted now. Someone else on another forum (VWVortex.com) found a photo of a rising blue with mirrors painted from the factory, but I dont yet have permission to post images.

        Cheers
