Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Cross-Eyed RVC?

    Hey Guys,
Yesterday when I was reversing, I was welcomed with this on my display :/

The menus and other screens on the RCD510 worked fine, just the image returned from the camera was a little - distorted - so to speak.

So I changed out of reverse, and let the camera tuck itself away.
Tried again, and was greeted with the same distorted image.

I tried, turning the engine off, locking and unlocking the car (unrelated I know, but decided to give anything a try).
Fired up the engine and tried again, to no avail.

I then drove off to my next destination and when I was parking there, I had this image come up.

Safe to Move? If the world immediately behind me looks like that, I'd be too scared to move!
Starting to lose hope at this point, I parked the car and shut it down and left it to rest for a few hours.

When I came back to my car to head home, I decided I'll throw it into reverse and see what the camera displays one last time before resigning all hope and contemplating a booking with the local dealer.
To my surprise, I got this:

The only thing that's changed is that the car had a chance to sit and cool down ...

I'm sure the car has seen hotter days than yesterday with no issue ...

Anyone else had this happen to them before?

[Apologies if this has been posted previously and apologies for the poor image quality - photos taken with a prehistoric mobile phone]

looks like it has had time to sober up a little... lol
have not had any issues with our reverse camera - had the car for over 12 months now.

I don't have a RVC, but it looks like the whole image has been shifted to the left (with the bit of the left-hand side that got cut off wrapping around to the other side).

Could be cables that aren't firmly plugged in?

My thinking too. Video sync issue perhaps? Damaged cable, or perhaps some interference.

If it happens again, I suggest you contact your dealer. Wonder if it raised a fault code.

Hey Laggster, this issue has happened to at least a couple of us in the past. Happened to me when I had my car for only a week or two. My camera picture was exactly as your pics. Problem was there everytime I tested it out on the day so I resigned myself to booking the car in for a look see. Next day however I couldn't replicate the issue. Spoke to service department and they think it may have corrected itself the next day when booting up. In a nutshell, I haven't had the problem since. It is a weird one but happy all is good now.

Yep ditto. I had this about two weeks in as well. Solved by itself overnight and, touch wood, never saw it again.

it will happen again. it happens rarely but does happen. have experienced this issue 3 times so far. Only experienced it AFTER I serviced my car at a VW dealer. Had a car for a year never was an issue. Could it be some firmware was applied?

                Unlikely.

VW dealers are NOT to go ahead and update control modules, etc willy nilly, unless it is a campaign. Even then, you will be informed of this prior.

To the topic at hand... The camera itself, is a fish-eye lense, so the image captured is distorted and useless. The RVC utilises it's own separate control module, which is used to rectify the image to what you see on your RNS/RCD 510.

There may well be a fix out there by way of a simple update to the control module, or perhaps parts replacement. However, there have been wiring issues in the past, particularly on MK5s, where the wiring can break where it passes from the hatch to the body via the jamb.

you could be right but who knows I don't think its physical nature it seems like a software bug somewhere but i could be totally wrong...we see if VW say anything on this issue....

I experienced this distorted image problem for the first time today. My experience was virtually identical to laggster. It happened at lunch time when I went for a drive, and was gone by the time I drove home a few hours later.

It appears that those that have had it happen to them only experience it short term. What ever causes it the unit or camera is a able to correct itself. It would be interesting to know if this happens or has happened for the second time for anyone.

That's crappy and would start to get annoying having it happen multiple times. How long have you had your car? Did you talk to your local VDub dealer and did they come up with any possible fix?
